Racial slur by Tea Party leader hits home
Racial slur by Tea Party leader hits home

By Lawrence Budd, Staff Writer

SPRINGBORO — Racist comments, including a slur about Hispanics, posted on the Twitter page of the Springboro Tea Party were particularly hurtful to Alana Turner.

“Illegals everywhere today! So many spics makes me feel like a speck. Grrr. Wheres my gun!?” said the March 21 posting on the site managed by the group’s founder, Sonny Thomas.

Turner said the comments upset her because she and Thomas have a 6-year-old son who is part Hispanic.

“Basically, it’s like he’s saying he hates his son,” Turner said.

The Twitter posting triggered cancellations by several local and statewide candidates and elected officials scheduled to speak at a Springboro Tea Party rally scheduled for Saturday, April 17, at North Park. However, some officials say this doesn’t tarnish the Tea Party movement as a whole.

“I don’t think it says anything about the movement per se,” state Sen. Shannon Jones, R-Clearcreek Twp., said on the same day Tea Party officials from around the country formed a federation to counteract perceptions that the groups are racist, unsophisticated and disorganized. Jones was the first elected official to withdraw from the event.

2. Oh no, it doesn't say anything about the movement "per se"
It says this guy, who happens to be a tea party leader, is a racist asshole.

Draw your own conclusions.

They just got their "wake-up call".
Those rednecks don't give a sh*t about your 1/2 hispanic son.
Like I said .. "Sleep with dogs, wake up with fleas".

12. At least candidates and elected officials canceled appearing
at the event. Of course that doesn't mean that others haven't already called to sign up to appear because of it.

14. Too many to count. Too many for coincidence. Too many to say "one bad apple".....
So many that it is now the rule and not the exception.

15. The number just keeps growing.
The more it happens, the number of incidents will just increase quicker.

16. Wow, no shock there
Shows that teabaggers have no class and are racist to the core. :eyes:

Now, what really pisses me off is Ms. Turner is basically saying, well, I didn't know the guy that's been my significant other for these many years is a flaming racist. (look of shock and surprise)

Dear "Walking Into Walls"--He didn't magically become a racist overnight. He's been this way for a while. He's likely made it clear on more than one occasion. You're not innocent for ignoring it all this time.

18. God, the dumb never stops. He said this yet has a part hispanic son?
Edited on Mon Apr-12-10 10:54 AM by DeschutesRiver
And I am supposed to believe the mother (wife?) is really surprised? She's hooked up with him long enough to create a family, yet had no clue that he felt this way about "spics"?

Fucking spare me, lady. First thing I'd have said, if this happened truly out of the blue is "I am done with this bastard. I've moved me and our son to a place of safety, and I am going to take whatever is ours with me by force of the law and as many large male friends as it takes to get the rest of my possessions. Future communications go through my attorney, you dickhead." The minute I hear something like that, it is more important to get away from such a freak than to be upset and musing out loud about it with some statement like so "basically, it is like he's saying he hates his son"?.

Yeah, hon, basically in a nutshell, he hates you if you are hispanic, and he is twisted up inside about having such a thing for a son. Are you confused because he took you the hispanic out for Mother's Day? Or acted like his kid was the exception to the "spic" rule? Move on, move fast, if this is seriously a surprise to you.

I am get tired of tea party people's stupidity. Like all the women in the "movement" who chime in and declare that they can't wait until they are living life as though they were in the founder's days. You know, back when women couldn't vote, own property or speak up about issues, as they are able to do right now in their little tea party groups. Yes, their men do mean they want things exactly as they were in the founders time - including shutting up these stupid prattling women to whom they are married. I saw one say as much on a tv interview (well, he tried to duck it, but not very well).
