Letter Writing Campaign to Convince AL GORE:
This thread didn't gain momentum so I thought I'D give it another chance:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x3248120

Al Gore has a very solid base of support among progressive, online activists. In one dairy, over 2400 Daily Kos readers pledged between $780,000 and $1,098,404 to Gore the day he announces his candidacy. A pro-Gore diary remains the most recommended dairy on Daily Kos ever, with over 1400 recommendations. And, when included, Gore crushes all competition on the front page straw polls with over 7,000 votes.

It’s clear that the majority of Daily Kos members would support Gore in the primary. How do we let him know how much we value his leadership, vision, and experience?

We can each write him a letter explaining why we want him to be our nominee in 2008, and why we want him to be our next President. This is a very important step for the Draft Gore movement. If Gore doesn't know that you support him, how could your support influence him to get into the race?

A letter has a personal touch that is worth more than a signature on an online petition. Furthermore, letter writing is something that everyone can do, right now, instead of waiting for the next Draft Gore meet-up or event.

Here is Al Gore’s official mailing address:

The Office of the Honorable Al Gore
2100 West End Avenue
Nashville, TN 37203

PLS CONSIDER GRABBING SOME PAPER, AN ENVELOPE AND A STAMP AND HELP IN THE CONVINCING! (I included some phots so he knew I was a real person)

ALSO PLS FORWARD THROUGH YOUR NETWORKS!

at an AIA (Architects Convention)! I'm sure he'll be fired up when he returns home.

17. I think Skinner is suggesting it on this thread, which I asked a question regarding
how the $ would be handled to a candidate who hasn't committed yet, but haven't heard a reply. I haven't given one cent to any of the candidates yet as I am waiting to hear from President Gore. Here's the thread Skinner posted:

How about we all take a picture of ourselves/family and mail it as a postcard to him? That way many more people along the way get to seeing the message and Gore gets to seeing us, in all our diverse glory!

I am certainly going to do that...

20. Good idea.
I sent photos of a fundraiser I held at my former business in '04, standing out in front of Kerry's campaign plane, and at Ohio's Fight for Democracy Rally after the '04 theft. I, too, wanted him to know I was more than a signature, but a real activist who was willing to pound the pavement for him.

It is really unfair to those candidates who are really giving it their all and laying it in the line. But whatever. I certainly won't be mailing a letter.Al had several chances to run.And he had an obligation to run in 2004.He chose not to. He is better used as an enviornmental champion.

28. That is a matter of opinion. But as I say, Gore had his chance. There was NO excuse for his
not running in 2004. I am not going to overlook that.He showed a lot of contempt for his support when he didn't run. But that is my opinion. I will support whoever is the Dem nominee.I think Gore is very qualified, but I also think the majority of the voters wouldn't vote for him. Remember, the left are not the only voters.I would like to see some comparative numbers against Repukes before Gore jumps in.

Where is it written you must follow through at the next available election or forget it? (cuz I must have missed that one).

Gore WON in 2000, are you aware of this fact? He is WAY more popular now!

32. Precisely!
I am GLAD that he took some time and got away from the 'handlers' and other consultants. I think he speaks from his heart and comes across more genuinely (He was genuine before, but I think took a lot of bad advice from consultants). He won in 2000 and he would win BIG in 2008. I repeat, there are Repubs who would cross over to vote for him. A section of the 'evangelical' community is very concerned about the environmental state of our Earth. And, no Saracat, I don't have 'comparative numbers', just what I hear here in Red hell, where I live.

33. So only because he is more "popular" now he is worth this?
Not because of who he is regardless of the "popularity" thrust upon him? Otherwise he would be forgotten now as well had he simply decided to keep teaching in Tennessee and not do the movie or book? Wow. And the fact that you want him to run in the same decrepid bought and sold system that stoleit from him and us without working yourself first to change it speaks volumes about why he wrote The Assault On Reason to begin with.

40. He owed it to us. He had the moral highground because he did win.
But he turned his back on us then. He gave every indication he would run and just didn't with no particular reason. All indications at the time pointed to his defating Bush.He abandoned us when we needed him most. That is how I feel. And he is only way more popular with the left and we need more than them to win!

27. IMHO, the slate of candidate's we have leaves me 'lukewarm'. We can't afford to not
have a dynamic candidate that will energize us as well as reach Repubs who are concerned about GW. Gore is that person. I am not bashing any other candidate, only saying that I want someone that energizes. Obama simply does not have the experience yet; maybe in a few years. I also know that racism still exists in this country; it is wrong, but it is a fact. I think he would make a fine VP until he gains some experience. Clinton is too tied to the corporate money machine and lots of her voting history bothers me and a lot of other people. I don't believe she can win, and that is her biggest risk for me. Edwards I like, but he has some difficulties, it appears, getting his message out. He would be my choice if Gore doesn't run. He also would make a good VP. Again, this is my opinion, but also the opinion of tons of people that I know personally, some of which tend to be less to the left than myself. We have to get this country out of the hands of these psychopaths. We can't afford to have a lukewarm candidate. Not to mention that Gore would influence policy to address our environmental disasters.

Additional note: In the General Election, I will vote for whoever the Democratic nominee is, so no flaming!

22. "A letter has a personal touch that is worth more than a signature on an online petition" . . .
how true . . . in fact, Congressional offices have an informal rating system for their constituent communications . . . they rank them from low to high on a significance scale, i.e. how much attention they'll pay to them . . .

the least effective communications are petition signatures, followed closely by pre-written e-mail . . . individualized e-mails are a little better, but not much . . .

next on the list is the phone call -- always better than any computerized communication, but of far less impact than the individual snail mail letter . . . the reasoning is that if someone takes the time to sit down and actually write a letter -- particularly in this day and age -- he or she must be really committed to their issue, and are likely very highly informed about it . . . in other words, worth listening to . . . the very highest rating is given to a real letter that is hand written -- that really impresses folks, because nobody does it anymore . . .

31. And the harrassment of this good man continues
Edited on Fri May-04-07 12:50 PM by RestoreGore
By people at Daily Kos and other left leaning blogs who do absolutely nothing to support his environmental endeavors other than use them to tie it into their own political agendas and are only doing this because they want a Hilary/Gore showdown. And I can't wait until the end of this month when I see him at a book signing here for his new book (to actually discuss the book) to tell him how I feel about it all.

And I like it here just fine. At least I support the man enough to be HONEST about how I feel instead of continuing to play the games so many do in wanting to entice him back into a system that treated him like shit when it should have backed him up. And if you don't like my opinion find a way to ignore it for all of your whining. If that isn't true to some extent it wouldn't have struck the nerve with you that it obviously did. Have a nice day.

38. Great Idea.
A variety of communication styles can only be a good thing.

I do want to let everyone know that the Draft Gore online petition topped 75,000 signatures today. This petition does encourage personal comments as well as signatures, and supporters have taken very eloquent advantage of that feature.
