6. Misleading.....see below in article.

"The late date of the maximum extent, though of special interest this year, is unlikely to have an impact on summer ice extent. The ice that formed late in the season is thin, and will melt quickly when temperatures rise."

Yes, this winter helped a little but all the "gains" will soon disappear. Things are not back to "normal" so quit saying that.

9. One season is meaningless. 30 years of data is meaningful

10. In geologic time...
....30 years or even 300 is meaningless.

The Earth is going to do what it is going to do. It always has.

In the meantime, we need to be able to adapt because we cannot control.

11. ..but we don't live in 'geologic time'.
You're quite correct, though. We cannot control climate. We can't control a wild bear either, but that doesn't mean it's a good idea to poke it with a stick. We can and have significantly altered the atmospheric chemistry which is a major component in the Earth's climate.

It is melting
Edited on Mon Apr-12-10 10:33 AM by Dante_88
I live in the Canadian Arctic and we see it here everyday.

Our perma-frost has disappeared, Polar Bears are mating with Grizzly bears because their ranges are overlapping. There is a new bear type called a Grizzlor (not kidding). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grizzly%E2%80%93polar_bear_hybrid

Our caribou herds are disappearing.

We had a very, very mild winter this year. Barely any snow and no usual -50 days.
