Medicaid Drops Coverage For Mom With Cancer
Why did this happen? This is being used to say that "government-run" healthcare really does have 'death panels'

Diana Smith has gone through six months of radiation and chemotherapy -- one week out of every month. She is in remission and had a donor for a transplant; being in remission is prerequisite for the transplant.

But her hopes of receiving the transplant were dashed in March, when she says, the Social Security Administration contacted her –without her soliciting it -- and told her that her three year-old son was entitled to receive Social Security disability payments. Even though she didn't ask for it, she signed the form and received her son's first check check.

In April, Medicaid canceled her universal health care policy because her income level had risen with her son's payments – making her ineligible for the insurance program

1. I don't buy this line:

4. That money is for her son and doesn't count as income for her.
I get social security for my son. The only other income I have is 600.00 pension that is provided by my husbands employer. When I apply for other government entitlements such as grants for education, only my income is considered when determining my eligibility. something is not right with this story.

2. This wouldn't be an issue if we had universal single payer coverage for every American from
the cradle to the grave.

No one could be dropped for any reason.

Thanks for the thread, goodboy.

3. Medicaid doesn't have "death panels"
but it does have income limits that are based on household income. Also, those limits have no connection to reality.

6. There is something wrong with this story
I am betting someone at SSDI made a boo- boo.

10. I agree. Where were the physicians to certify her son for SSDI?
One does not just ask for SSDI and then get it from a single form and then get the first check one month later, and the money should not be credited to her rather to her as her son's guardian, two different animals.

Now, the income guidelines are strict, but sometimes they are good. I "made" just under $100 per annum to qualify for "extra help" for my pharma bills from my SSDI and Medicare. That saves me over $300 a month. Glad she is in remission. I start my 3rd round of chemo for NH Lymphoma tomorrow. Yuck. First two rounds were nasty, only remission for 6 months first time and 4 the second. There is no way anyone could possibly work and take heavy chemo like I did. I do not understand the Teabag mentality at all when it comes to healthcare. None of them could pay their rent/mortgage and their private insurance and for oncology all at once when not working, and what savings I had are long gone, thanks to that $200 a night copay BCBS has with my Medicare. Blamed hotel room doesn't even have a pool either, just nurses that wake me up every 4 hours and loud people next door.

7. Since I receive $151 dollars in state retirement
I am 2 dollars over the limit to have the state pay for my medicare insurance. I am disgusted but that's the way it is.

8. My aunt had that same thing. She lived in Section 8 housing & got only SS, but her income was $5.00
over the cutoff to receive food stamps & medicaid.
