LOS ANGELES The police chief of Los Angeles says he's "not happy" with what he's seen of aggressive police tactics used to break up an immigration protest in MacArthur Park.
Police wielded batons and fired rubber bullets and several media members were also injured. Rally organizers say police even pushed children and denounced the police action as brutal.

Appearing today on C-B-S' "Early Show" Chief William Bratton says it's fortunate that there's a lot of video to look at. He says he wants to find out exactly what happened...

1. Horrified - but NOT surprised
The LAPD has a long history of brutality towards minorities. This one will also be watered down and buried. As they always do.

Was also shocked at how little play this got in the media
This should have been headline news...

8. Amy Goodman reported it on Democracy Now! today
but no, it didn't get play on the cable channels.

This has been a very bad decade for journalists. If we don't protect the press how in the world can we expect it to function?

5. Horrified? Definitely. Surprised? No.
This is the LAPD we're talking about, some of the most corrupt and brutal thugs ever turned loose in uniform. This was just a little light recreation for them. Imagine what they would have done if the cameras weren't there.

6. Not surprised, but it was awful. There has been a tidal wave of change in the
behavior and operation of police departments in the last 30 years. I would not be surprised if the same happened in any city in the country. Authoritarianism is on the march.

7. Police riots are nothing new in LA.
I'm horrified at what it's going to cost to settle the ensuing lawsuits.
I'm horrified that in the end none of those responsible will lose their badges.
