Helen Thomas spoke in Ottawa today on the occasion of World Press Day.
http://www.pressclub.on.ca/wcr.htmlThey just played a clip of her speech on our local CBC Radio station. I went to the web site to see if they'd posted a clip. Sorry. No luck.
She repeated those lovely nuggets about how, in Cuba's democracy, Fidel Castro doesn't have to answer questions from Helen Thomas, and how Bush 1 used to believe in freedom of the press and now he believes in freedom from the press, and how Bill Clinton suspected that a convoy of press vehicles followed him on his daily jog in hopes of catching him falling down dead. "It's true," she said.
She also talked about her early days as a reporter in Washington just after WWII.
Ahhh.... wonderful anecdotes.
