SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- California State Sen. Roy Ashburn was sentenced Wednesday to three years probation in connection with a drunken driving incident in Sacramento.
California State Sen. Roy Ashburn was sentenced Wednesday to three years probation in connection with a drunken driving incident in Sacramento.
The Republican from Bakersfield was not present in court. His attorney entered a no-contest plea on his behalf.
Ashburn was also ordered to serve 48 hours jail time, but that will be served in work release.
The arrest eventually led to the conservative senator's admission that he's gay.
Ashburn was driving a Senate-issued vehicle when he was pulled over near the state Capitol in early March. The next day, reports surfaced that Ashburn had left Faces, a gay nightclub, with an unidentified man in the passenger seat of the state vehicle.
