Washington would surely have thought it proper that the U.S. and Britain would have the same relations that any other two equal, sovereign nations would have with each other, which includes visits by heads of state.

(and no, I didn't mean to rhyme) It actually might be refreshing to see how a TRUE Head of State handles those who've been through a crisis. They're not just "props" for good photo ops, you know. (okay, I'm outta here before I start sounding like Dr. Seuss ... on the loose ... with a moose ... riding the caboose ... aargh!!!!!!!!)

That was my intention. Maybe I should confine that stuff to the Lounge.
In reality, George Washington is my favorite president of all time. I only wish he was here now.

She is the head of state of one of this nation's principal allies. Further, considering what passes for our head of state, I don't think any American should be sneering at anyone else's.

Pea green with envy 'cause he'll never be a king in this country. King of fools maybe, but that's it. The Kentucy Derby ought to be fun with her there though.

12. Here's a thought - why don't you keep her? |
|
She has a whole family of greedy, inbred halfwits so she would get on well with Bush and she could teach him how to be a real monarch. And she's absolutely no use to us. She's expensive to keep, but cheaper than the war.

Actually, I was hoping she'd take Bush home with her. She could put him in a palace and tell him it's a ranch.

17. You might want to read up on Washington before speculating on his manners |
|
Washington's the guy who came up with the neutrality policy and he did so based on the belief that we should have commerce with all countries. He felt no ill will toward the British, even tho their army burnt his farm and liberated his slaves (those unprincipled bastards!) during the Revolution.
Now Andy Jackson is a different matter. If Ol Hickory were alive, he'd be chewing up a wad of tobaccy juice and horking up the biggest loogie he could muster just to salute her Magesty.

19. All those military around and all the kowtowing |
|
Is sort of bothersome - why do we as humans exalt others? With elected officials, at least they were elected, not declared that way by blood.
Which brings to mind the question regarding the queen being head of state. Isn't she just ceremonial now? I don't think she is the true head of state, so that maybe her visit should be considered the equivalent of any other celebrity's visit, rather than that of a head of state.

22. Personally speaking... |
|
... I don't want her or any of her relatives anywhere near me. The only reason I tolerate the monarchy is because in it's modern guise, it's mostly harmless.
I suppose that technically, she is our Head of State but I like to imagine that we live in a free country... I also like to ignore the other technicality of Tony Blair and his mates for similar reasons.
