MO Rep Blames VA Tech shooting on "culture of entitlement"
"Is it possible we witnessed some tragic consequences of America’s new culture of entitlement and dependence? American young men are no longer taught to act in an emergency; today’s culture teaches that it is someone else’s job to act."

Capitol Report
Representative Ed Emery
District 126
05/03/2007

1. Actually, that was Ronald Reagan who taught America that.
He said that everyone must be responsible for themselves and should have no guilty feelings about not helping others.

Ronald "beastly" Ray-gun!

2. Theres some truth in that, one of the TV stations went out and did a sting thing to see how people
would react to drunk drivers on campus. After spending a day playing drunks, there was one 911 call made. Pretty much everyone that was interviewed said the same thing, I thought someone else would call.

3. My response:
Is it possible that people allowed so many to die without taking action because of the culture of selfishness, greed, and self righteousness? It would be if I had no management of the impact of my ideology on my thinking. For gun control folks it is a gun control issue, for mental health advocates it is a health care issue, and for those who blame poverty and disability on laziness, well we get what you sent.

5. Maybe because THERE WAS NO TIME TO ACT?
Or maybe because, not being trained for that purpose, their first instincts were to duck and cover? Or, maybe because those kids didn't want DIE? People did try to stop the guy - like the RA and the aeronautics professor - and they got killed.

Someone tell KO that he's got a new "Worst Person in the World".

6. My complete report:
Edited on Thu May-03-07 06:07 PM by usregimechange
In Rep. Emery (R-126) new capital report he vomits his typical automatic thoughts, this time pertaining to the victims of the Virginia Tech shooting. "What caused the apparent paralysis and impotence?" he asks.

He thinks that maybe the young men were busy "assisting others, especially the young ladies, to escape" but is confounded by why the victims did not rush the gunman.

Why does he think this would be true?

"Is it possible we witnessed some tragic consequences of America’s new culture of entitlement and dependence? American young men are no longer taught to act in an emergency; today’s culture teaches that it is someone else’s job to act."

Is it possible that the victims "allowed" so many to die without taking action because of the culture of selfishness, greed, and self righteousness? This is maybe due to such behavior by Republican leaders like himself? It would be if I had no management of the impact of my ideology on my thinking. For gun control folks it is a gun control issue, for mental health advocates it is a health care issue, and for those who blame poverty and disability on laziness, well we get what Ed sent.

Hey, Ed, might you have balmed some of this on the shooter?
