The big unspoken fact in regards to US gun violence....
have been arguing in regards to gun rights/control on other forums untill I am blue in the face in the wake of the VT shootings. One fact that have been pointing out on other boards follows:

According to the FBI compiled crime statistics in about 63% of all handgun murders in the US, both the perp and the victim had a prior criminal record. Thus the majority of handgun murders in this country fall into the catagory of "bad guys killing other bad guys" and thus should be of little concern to most people. If it were not for the fact that most criminals lack skill with their weapons and have a tendency to injure inocents when targeting other criminals, I would say "what's the big deal"?

All kidding aside, this statistic really sheds some light on what the real face of gun violence in the country is like. These public mass shootings, while tragedies of the worst sorts, are extremely rare occurances that make up a fraction of one percent of all gun deaths in the US. We shold NOT be in the bussines of making laws in over-reaction to crimes that are so rare as to be almost non-existant.

Thoughts?

criminals who are killing each other get their guns?

If we extend your "logic" one step further, one would expect that if we gave criminals free guns they would kill each other off. The last one standing will be the last criminal. We could eradicate crime once and for all.

Good deal.

2. Welcome to DU, Texas Prison Boss
You'll find a wide variety of opinions on that subject here. As for me, I don't have too much of a problem with bad guys shooting each other and frankly there's not much that can be done to keep a hardboiled criminal from getting a gun. We can do a lot more about crazies and wife-beaters, by making the National Instant Check System database more complete, and making it available for private sales of used guns.
