Terrific first-hand video reporting from the scene at the May Day Melee here in Los Angeles which we covered on Tuesday night as it broke.

The following video report features tremendous --- and often terrifying --- footage from before, during, and after LAPD officers in riot gear began firing rubber bullets into the crowd of immigration demonstrators, including many women and children who were clearly caught completely off guard. The show of force from the LAPD was quite impressive, to say the least.

That sentence does not map to any comprehensible thought. Are you suggesting that it is okay for the LAPD to act like madmen, because of illegal immigration? That is preposterous. I live in an area with many immigrants, both legal and illegal, and I do not see it becoming a third world country in terms of living standards, nor would I blame such a state on immigrants even if it did become so. Making that claim would be to totally ignore the policy and economic realities imposed from above in our society.

Not to mention the fact that maybe today the police were firing plastic bullets into a crowd of women and children that you dislike, but there is nothing to stop them from firing at a crowd of illiterate yokels tomorrow. Such a display might hit a little closer to your home, I suspect.

the best video i`ve seen so far is the la fox news video unedited footage and the comment from the reporter on the ground. i say the best because the fox news people were shocked about what happened-i guess they never watch the national fox news.

24. I don't know if it has changed but the LAPD did not answer to the mayor's office

the police chiefs were in until THEY decided to quit. Gene Roddenberry was in the LAPD as a press relations guy and he worked with Daryl gates predecessor -- Parker. He later said that he based the character of Spock on Parker because he came to doubt the humanity of Parker after witnessing his callous cruelty and lack of compassion (he made Spock a likeable character however).

15 years ago the LAPD let the city burn for 3 days because Los Angeles pissed them off by putting 4 officers on trial. They were all aquited on all charges but the very idea that the civilians had dared to put them on trial at all was enough to have the LAPD unleash hell for 3 days.
