COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Three fourth-graders who allegedly had a plan to bury a classmate alive on a playground have been disciplined, according to officials in Academy School District 20.
The unidentified students attend Endeavour Elementary School. The incident happened Wednesday, district officials said. The victim was Dyrk White, a 9-year-old student at the school. He was not injured, officials said.
According to Dyrk's mother, Jasmine White, the students began digging a hole last Thursday while the family was out of town. The hole was several feet wide and several feet deep. When
Dyrk returned to class Wednesday, the students held him face-down in the hole and tried to bury him, she said.
School staff members saw the struggle and broke it up. According to a statement released by the district, an unidentified staff member was disciplined for failing to act appropriately on the incident when told of it by Dyrk. District officials would not specify what form of discipline the students and the staff member will receive.
Jasmine White said Dyrk has been in trouble at school before--once for accidentally spraying a classmate with a chemical he found, and for a recent bullying incident. She said the latter incident may be why students sought revenge against him.
