The peaceful calm was a far cry from what Springboro resident and political activist Sonny Thomas had in mind; the Springboro Tea Party founder had expected a large crowd in the park for his "Bringin' Back Conservatism - Doin' It Again in 2010."
Then, a posting with racist remarks directed toward Hispanic immigrants appeared at a Twitter website maintained by Thomas. The remarks stirred controversy, and shortly thereafter speakers schedule to speak at the rally began withdrawing.
Ohio Attorney General candidate Robert Owens, Ohio Senator Shannon Jones, and former Ohio Congressman James Traficant were among those who cancelled their appearances at the Springboro Tea Party event

It was unclear how Brian D. “Sonny” Thomas’ arrest would affect the group’s rally scheduled for Saturday, April 17, at North Park in Springboro.

Thomas became the subject of nationwide media attention after the Dayton Daily News reported on his Hispanic slur on the Springboro Tea Party’s Twitter site, although he has a son who is part Hispanic.
Elected officials and others scheduled to participate in the rally withdrew after learning of the racist, violent slur.
