Springboro Tea Party rally fizzles
http://www.tcnewsnet.com/main.asp?SectionID=17&SubSectionID=262&ArticleID=152854

Springboro residents expected to hear the sounds of protest and speeches coming from the North Park Amphitheater on Saturday, Apr. 17. Instead, they were treated to the sounds common to a sunny spring day: dogs barking, birds chirping, and children playing.

The peaceful calm was a far cry from what Springboro resident and political activist Sonny Thomas had in mind; the Springboro Tea Party founder had expected a large crowd in the park for his "Bringin' Back Conservatism - Doin' It Again in 2010."

Then, a posting with racist remarks directed toward Hispanic immigrants appeared at a Twitter website maintained by Thomas. The remarks stirred controversy, and shortly thereafter speakers schedule to speak at the rally began withdrawing.

Ohio Attorney General candidate Robert Owens, Ohio Senator Shannon Jones, and former Ohio Congressman James Traficant were among those who cancelled their appearances at the Springboro Tea Party event

Will Springboro Tea Party leader get out jail for rally?

FRANKLIN – The founder of the Springboro Tea Party was in the Warren County Jail on Thursday after turning himself in to police.

It was unclear how Brian D. “Sonny” Thomas’ arrest would affect the group’s rally scheduled for Saturday, April 17, at North Park in Springboro.

Thomas became the subject of nationwide media attention after the Dayton Daily News reported on his Hispanic slur on the Springboro Tea Party’s Twitter site, although he has a son who is part Hispanic.

Elected officials and others scheduled to participate in the rally withdrew after learning of the racist, violent slur.

2. A normal day in the park?
People dancing, people laughing?
A man selling ice cream?
Singing Italian songs?

4. best line in the article about the founder of the local Tea Party "movement" ...
“He does not represent the Tea Party movement,” ...

um ... if you are a founder of a group, how do you NOT represent that group? (unless you break the media/Republican rules and apply the ACORN effect ...)

6. I Almost Think Its Funny How Tea Partiers Are Being Manipulated To Oppose Derivative Regulations
Edited on Sat Apr-17-10 10:34 PM by TomCADem
It is probably more tragic than funny.

Mitch McConnell just recently finished a series of meetings and fundraisers with Wall Street executives, and is now reciting Frank Lutz's lies to kill financial reform. Yet, the Tea Partiers (who profess to hate Wall Street) are now being mobilized to kill regulation of financial derivatives!

It is almost as tragic as getting Mothers Against Drunk Drivers to demonstrate in favor of lowering the drinking age.
