ASH OVER LOAD = FOOD Chain Disruption = POSSIBLE LARGE GLOBAL FAMINES |
|
Large DieBacks = Less Advancement = Stagnation/Regression = Destabilization = Capacity to recover in question = Natures way of culling the weak/aged to strengthen genes to pass on
We need to look at this Ice Land Volcano with more than Passing Alarm....this might be real series...
Esp so if it last for a significant period...like 14 months 19 months??? The last time...it went off for 2 years
We just don't know....but the effects....? Like crop loss/reduction...grassland loss/deserfication....leading to FOOD CHAIN Disruption, Condition RED
UN and the US should be thinking of viable Contingency Plans
ASAP
Time Frame...assuming eruption is ongoing, we have Spring Summer to work with for food production increases outside of dust zone.....
series inquiries will get series responses re solutions...pm me.

Eyjafjallajökull is a very small volcano. If it's neighboring volcano Katla is triggered it would be a much more serious affair, but still only a fraction the size of Mt Pinatubo. "Icelandic volcano won't affect the world's climate" http://www.abc.net.au/environment/articles/2010/04/16//2874939.htm

5. Mt. Pinatubo was worse - no famine resulted |
|
The Tambora euruption in 1815 was much worse - and produced the Year Without Summer in 1816. It was hardship for New England farmers but produced no widespread global famine.

|

your argument isn't very sound. The food supply chain back then was very different than it is today. In order to create shortages and hunger today, the whole world wouldn't need to be affected--just certain nations. Since the global food supply is no longer as local as it was back then, shortages in Canada (just a random example) could affect all the nations that Canada exports to, and so on for other import/export relationships between nations.
I'm not saying it WILL happen. I'm just saying that comparing it to the Tambora eruption is not really a good argument because the world and its food supply has significantly changed since then.

16. That is the arguement...in the ole daze, the worlds pop was less than a billion |

now...its 6.6 Billion and our global resources have dropped to desperation status...we don't see it in developed Nations but the vast amount of humanity hanging on by threads are at risk for any disruptions.
It would not hurt to be PREPARED...
As them Scouts like to say....>>>BE PREPARED>>>

29. This isn't even close to the scale required to cause global famine. |
|
The issue with this volcano is that it's close enough to Europe to disrupt air travel with the ash cloud.
But really, volcanoes erupt all the time, and aside from the location, this one's not unusual.
Incidentally, some ashfall is actually beneficial - IIRC, doesn't it act as a fertilizer?
