Marcy Winograd Challenges Jane Harman On Stage @ CDP
Edited on Sun Apr-18-10 07:38 AM by SLSmith
April 17, 2010

Jane Harman and Marcy Winograd have been present at the California Democratic Party convention in LA. It has been a carefully orchestrated dance by Team Jane that she has NOT be present anywhere with Marcy.

The Progressive Caucus held an event and invited Jane Harman, Norman Solomon, Jim Hightower, Jane Hamsher & Marcy Winograd (apologies in advance if I omitted any speakers). Marcy had been onstage with other speakers at the beginning of the event & Norman Solomon had stated several times "Jane Harman had been invited - is she in the room". Marcy left the stage after debating several issues with the panelists to go to another commitment.

Shortly thereafter Jane Harman & Co. entered the Progressive Caucus event & took a seat on stage. Team Marcy re-entered the event & took her place on stage with Jane Harman. History in the making!

A spirited mini-debate pursed. There is video of this & it will be uploaded on Team Marcy Channels (UT: Winograd4Congress, FB: Marcy Winograd for Congress & Twitter @MarcyWinograd).

Quotes from Marcy about this weekend fight to get Marcy Winograd & Jane Harman to talk about their platforms in front of the entire California Democratic Party of entire delegation on Sunday, April 18.

Says Winograd, "This is not a contest between two corporate Democrats. It's between Our Street vs. Wall Street. Homes vs. Banks. Jobs vs. Wars. At stake are the values and soul of the Democratic Party. Who are we? What do we stand for? I am a proud progressive, whereas my opponent introduced herself at a previous convention as 'the best Republican in the Democratic Party' and is a member of the Republican-lite Blue Dog coalition. I am running a grassroots campaign, without taking a dime of corporate money. My opponent is awash in corporate contributions and has hired consultant Harvey Englander, notorious for engineering the passage of Proposition 13, to run her campaign."

Saturday night Marcy Winograd was successful in gathering 500 delegates signatures to overturn the endorsement and push this fight to the floor on Sunday morning, April 18. To block Harman's endorsement on the floor, Marcy will need 50% plus 1 delegate to reject her candidacy. For Marcy to obtain an endorsement, she will need 75% of the floor.

PS - this a.m. on CSPAN Washington Journal they were again covering Tea Party movement. I tweeted them - Why are you always covering Tea Party & NOT covering Progressive vs Blue Dog races in the 2010 primaries???
