Russia flexes muscles in Western airspace

A pair of Tupolev Tu-160 Blackjack bombers -- the largest jet-powered combat aircraft ever built, capable of carrying nuclear missiles -- last month entered British airspace over Northern Scotland, Deutsche Welle reports.

Two Tornado fighter jets from the British air force intercepted the supersonic bombers, accompanying them for four hours until they left British airspace.

1. You think Palins big mouth got Russia all worked up again??
During the election she sent out the thoughts that Russia was this big threat and to respond they have to beef up their military and make their presence know.

2. The Russians were doing this kind of thing when Bush jr was in office.
I guess the whole world wanted to test just how WEAK a leader we had in George W Bush.

3. Thats why I never understood this "Reagan won the Cold War" myth
I have never heard of winning any war where the "loser" wasn't required to give up his weapons.

And Russia never gave up their weapons that I am aware of. They still possess enough nuclear weaponry and the means to get it here to completely destroy America. No one denies that.

What exactly did we win?

6. Nothing....both sides lost big.
Repukes acted like Reagan 'won' something because they were hardup after Iran-Contra. In truth, Gorbachev should be given the victory over the cold war, if there can be such a thing. Reagan just played along like the lame actor he was.

8. I realize that we caused the USSR to spend themselves into bankruptcy on their military
But as I recall we(Reagan) did just about the same thing to ourselves back then to provoke them into doing it with "Star Wars" and a bunch of other useless crap.

I don't get it but the myth continues anyway.

9. Yeah the wonderful nuclear arms race - that stole trillions from the treasury
just so we could have a bigger penis than Russia! :eyes: Even after 30 years, I am still very cynical about the Cold War and all the bullshit that went along with it.

We all lost.

10. Actually most such wars were won in that kind of way
Debellation or complete conquest as the default condition of a war isn't that common.

In any case, the Soviet Union lost its existence, to say nothing of almost all of Moscow's sphere of influence and its need or willingness to stay parked on a war footing towards the west. Things like Russian aircraft prodding NATO airspace are more or less a non-issue, as much as the media likes to stir up panics about it.
