Startling National Enquirer headline: "Elizabeth Edwards given 6 months to live."
And further therapy has been abandoned. It's on the newsstand at my supermarket...

I know that it the Enquirer but as I recall they had the real story on John Edwards sneaking into that hotel to see Rielle and the baby. Sometimes they get the story right...

I don't know about the rest of the story...something about giving Elizabeth's jewelry to Rielle, but if this prognosis is correct, I am very, very sad...

1. This is sad, and I believe it...they obviously have some well-informed sources
on all things Edwards.

2. I guess we all knew the day would come...still, it is a shock to me.
I think I'm saddest that this is so baldly splashed on the cover, even tho I know they do it all the time...

3. It's hard to accurately predict how long someone has to live.
The Enquirer doesn't have psychic powers.

16. +1

I know someone who was taken off dialysis as their kidney functioning actually returned after several years of going downhill - things do happen

5. Oh, God... I fear it may be so...
How incredibly tragic for those kids, given what they have gone through the past couple of years. John is going to have one hell of a lot of guilt to live with. (I know he is a narcissistic asswipe, but I still don't think he is a sociopath, unable to feel responsibility or guilt).

I only hope that Elizabeth has friends and family to help her with this difficult time and may pass, assuming the story to be true, as peacefully and painlessly as possible. I hope the days/weeks leading up to that time are filled with as great a quality of life as possible. I always liked Elizabeth. She made mistakes vis-a-vis, John, but I believe she had a good heart. I wish her only the best.

6. How awful to know that wretched piece of trash John hooked up with is probably...
Going to finish raising her children.

8. Really... wouldn't that be the worst of it all...
The final dagger in her heart and not a damned thing she can do about it.

7. This is outrageous on so many levels.
First no one can predict how long someone will live, no one. And this is so incredibly cruel for NE to publish this
crap solely for the purpose of making money. This is horrible for her and for her family. My god, haven't
they been through enough already. This beyond vile.

9. They do it all the time with nearly every celebrity....
I try to focus on the "PREVENTION" magazine and similar, at the check out counter as I find these rags with their death bed (or open casket) photos and their pre-death pronouncements just so horrible. I remember when they kept running these kind of stories and photos for the late Patrick Swayze--during a time when he was still actively fighting and even taping his short-lived tv show. So damned sad.

10. Pretty goddamn tasteless headline, but that's the Enquirer for ya
Sad news, but not surprising. She was given a terminal diagnosis some time ago. If you have been through that with a loved one, there's part of you that wants to believe they can beat it, and they may well have several good years of life left, but eventually the end comes. Cancer's a fucking bitch :evilfrown:

I feel awful for the kids.... knowing they'll grow up without their mom, and a douchebag father who will probably marry his whore :puke:

11. And if you make yourself a public figure (or a loved one does) you become "news"
Had Edwards done the "family man thing" and removed himself from the campaign when her cancer recurred, we would not be as "informed" as we are now..
They chose to remain public, and to give details, so there was no backtracking from that.

The older daughter will probably have a big say in the raising of the littler ones.

I just hope that JE has lots of money saved, because steady, lucrative work may elude him for the foreseeable future, and he's got some pricey digs to maintain....and lots of kids to support..for a very long time.

14. Nobody can "give" anybody a certain number of months to live.
You do what you can and you take what you can get. Some people defy the odds.

I would never listen to this "the doctors give her..." crap. Doctors can't "give" people time. All they can do is estimate how much longer they may live. Doctors can be wrong.

15. This makes me so sad...

But I don't believe for a minute that Elizabeth would give her jewelry to anyone but her daughters!

And I have to say it-that beeotch Rielle is nothing but a disgusting pig!

17. That part of the story is not too credible IMO.
EE's jewelry is hers to promise to whomever she deems. That should be her daughters and no doubt will be. I can't see the older daughter standing by while her father gives his mistress her mother's things...
