37. Dear Doctor,
I've been spending my extra Monday time sending messages to some of the people in this group.

This is what I said to "Kevin,"

"How disgusting.
When was the last time you laughed when someone said the "N" word Kevin?
No One should openly pray for the death of another person.
Go to an airport and "JOKE" about God "taking out" an airplane."

So this made me think about how the OJ trial hinged on the misuse of the "N" word. So I posted about how Tea Baggers go nuts when you call them racist, but is that word part of their everyday jargon?

62. Dear Doctor
Those people are ickky. Plus I feel creepy just for having gone off at them. It's like I was just spreading more gak into the world.
Some of them were pretty pissed off and we had flame wars. But again, it's just more negativity.
I want to bring down the negativity, so just arguing with them is so fruitless.

I apologized to one lady who was civil. I told her the Group was still dumb and I bet she could make a classier group and she thanked me.

Anyway, I hope Face book takes this thing down, sooooooooooooooon.

6. If this had been directed at Bush a few years ago
The very same people applauding would have been screaming about respect for the Commander in Chief and treason.
But since it's Obama they think it's "humor".

It's exceptionally simpleminded, and yet the denizens of Brownshirt Land think it's clever.

9. 181,812 sick, twisted fans on that evil site
It's sickening how the right pretends to be the party of 'values' and 'honor' and the 'American Way' and yet be so hateful they created a page like this. And the 181,812 fans of that site are just a fraction of the millions of radial mutants who want to harm to come to the president.

NOTE: Oliver North advocating harm to then-President Clinton: Right wing threats are nothing new. In 1995, when Oliver North guest hosted on the Rush Limbaugh show he said "If I knew of any harm that would come to the president (Clinton) I would do nothing to stop it". The traitorous North said this to Limbaugh's audience of gun toting radicals who are looking for an excuse to go kill someone. North swore to preserve and protect the US against all enemies when he entered the military. That oath is for life. But North violated that oath and committed yet another traitorous act.

15. There are certain things that are more important to spell correctly and have good grammar
the title of a facebook page is one of them, along with tattoos, resumes, and neon signs.

Not being able to spell is understandable. But not double checking it is just... really bad.

17. Well, double checking only works if you've made
what you can perceive as an error. If you've spelled something wrong because you really think that's the way it's spelled, all of the proof reading in the world isn't going to help.

And the reason a lot of these people spell so many things wrong in such blissful ignorance is that they rarely, if ever, read things written by people who know better. You learn to spell largely by rote, by seeing words spelled correctly over and over. If your exposure to language is largely through TV and radio, your spelling is likely to be poorer.

44. Lame.
If one chooses to 'like' or 'dislike' this thread, they are performing juvenile exercise.

Bringing awareness of people suggesting harm to the President is not a fucking popularity contest. The fact that you see it that way says much about you. The only reason not to 'like' the post is if you either a) Support the advocacy of harm to the President, or b) you don't think there's anything serious about people doing so.

That's not 'whining'; Unreccers here fall into one of those two categories... which one are you?

Now, before you spout off about how they're 'just making a joke' or they 'can't be taken seriously', think back to the guy who made a joke about 'God speaking through a burning bush' and was sentenced to three years in jail for it.

If these shitheads thought that sentence was appropriate for that joke, then they should do thrice the time themselves.

Got a problem with that?

53. There are other reasons that seem to have escaped you.
Recommending a post means that you think it deserves to go on the Greatest Threads page. While I didn't unrec your post, I can think of a few reasons why your post doesn't deserve to be on that page.

-It isn't thought provoking.
-There's no substance to it.
-It doesn't elicit discussion. All discussion on this thread has been people either agreeing with your post or telling related stories. This is because there's no real content of your post to discuss.

I'm sure there are more.

Your comment above, is far more deserving of being on the Greatest page than your OP for some of those exact reasons.

You never answered my question though. You said, "Is it time to reveal the truth of the unrec feature yet?" and I asked what that truth was. You've yet to explain what you meant. Offering quotes and admonishment for imagined behavior isn't an answer.

54. I never post with the intention of getting an OP to TGP.

You seem to be suggesting that people rec or unrec a post based on it's aesthetic value. I can't disagree with that, but if a post is about something as outrageous as people openly advocating for the death of the POTUS, then I really do feel a great deal of shame for the "Liberals" that are oh-so-sophisticated that not having enough 'flair' or 'sophistication' is enough to dismiss a post.

It really compounds the 'elitist intellectual' perception of Liberals.

Make no mistake, this issue deserves as much visibility as possible. I'm glad you can agree with that. I intend to utilize the insight you've kindly given me to do just that.

As for your question, that's a 'project x' issue. If you've been around DU for a while, then you know what that is by now.

Do you REALLY, seriously, in your heart of hearts, believe Bush is going anywhere but hell when he dies?

But seriously, this group is all a bit of (somewhat sick) bullshit, okay? I've seen the same prayer with Republican politicians, Sean Hannity, Bill O'Reilly, Ann Coulter and anyone else we don't like. I don't really think it's worth worrying about, and the Secret Service won't give a shit...telling God that after he took all your favorite celebrities he should take your "favorite" politician (you know, the one you love to hate) or even that "Pray for President Obama--Psalm 109.8" bumper sticker don't exactly rise to the level of giving the teabaggers an exact map of the beach he's going to next week including the location of a really good place to set up a sniper nest and a list of ammunition dealers within 50 miles of the place. There are threats to the president's life but this Facebook group really isn't one of them. It's just stupid, repulsive, trite, boring, moranic, and very, very old.

46. I unfriended someone over this
My friend and I never met but we adopted from the same orphanage in China and have been on the same yahoo group for several years. When I saw that she had joined this FB group, I commented to her that it was not funny, it was disgraceful and said "bye" before I "unfriended" her. She immediately wrote back:

-------------------

I'm sorry that my becoming a fan of that group offended you. You are right; it was a sick joke and not at all funny. It struck me as entertaining at the moment.

I hope you know I would not wish any harm to any of our governing officials, despite my intense dislike for their policies. Can we just agree to disagree and still be friends? Again, I apologize for offending you. I'd sure hate to have this pall over our relationship over a dumb group I joined.

Sorry... :(

-----------------

I have not "friended" her again, I want to respond but I can't find the right words to express how angry and upset this has made me. People have to know that words have consequences -- it only takes one crazy person to carry out these actions because they don't see it as a joke.

You should talk to her.

Start with questions. They are the way to the truth. Ask your 'un'friend just what policies she opposes.

She will either have no concern that you cannot address by asking why and from where it comes...

-OR-

She will have a knowledge and understanding of how those policies may be harmful.

Either way, someone will attain enlightenment.

but I'd ask her if she's left the group yet before "re friending." My brother posts shit like this & gets mad when I respond with Snopes or the truth, yet feels it's ok to attack my friends & call them names when I post political stuff. He never apologizes, which is why he's now in "time out."

I just post something along the lines of "Yay! I love to see Christians praying for someone to die! Just like Jesus tells us to do!" Makes their heads spin. And if it makes 'em defriend me, good. If they say "we're not really doing that," I ask them just what exactly ARE they doing then. :crickets:

61. US Secret Service phone numbers here.
In my sigline.

Don't let even just one of these wackos go unchecked.

Even if it's just to make sure they get a 'wake-up' call, like 'Hello there, this is the US Secret Service calling...'

I'd pay to see the idiot's face!
