I recieved a call from the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee
Edited on Sun Apr-18-10 03:10 PM by Radical Activist
They want money, of course. I told the caller right away that I only donate to individual candidates but she went right into her script anyway. It was some story about needing 60 Democrats. I asked if the DSCC was giving support to Blanche Lincoln. She went on with the script about needing 60 Democrats to pass important agenda items.

I pointed out that the most important agenda item to pass right now is climate change legislation and some Senate Democrats are the main obstacle to that. That's why I only give to individual candidates.

I'm giving the money they requested to Bill Halter instead. There's no better way to send a message to spineless Senate Democrats than to defeat Blanche Lincoln, the corporate stooge who isn't there for us on climate change, health care, or the right to organize. We need to make them more afraid of us than they're afraid of tea parties and corporate special interests.

1. I would do the same thing
The DSCC and the DCCC will just spend all their money (our money) on wishy washy DLCers who either vote against health care, or demanded that it be so watered down as to take the best thing out of the bill (the public option).

2. Exactly.
It's a way for conservative Dems to get money from people who would never personally donate to that candidate.

3. I'm willing to donate to them in the last month before a GE
but never before.

4. I've been doing the same for every solicitation they send to me or phone
into me. I don't donate anymore to the DNC or DCCC either. All that money is going to Barbara Boxer instead because the Repubs are targeting her Senate seat for one of theirs.

5. I heard from them too...
I let her talk awhile, do her thing...

And then I said as you did, that I was supporting individual candidates.

I also said I was unhappy with the way Obama has been more a corporatist than I'd been led to believe he'd be...

We argued a bit, but I stuck to my position. NO money for the DSCC...not until I see change in how Obama does things.

The whole thing really pissed me off.

7. The way I interpret things
is that I see Obama introduce good plans. It gets watered down and passed in the House. Then it gets watered down even more or completely stopped in the Senate. Democratic Senators are the ones who need to be sent a message more than anyone else. I'm confident Obama will sign anything as liberal as the Congress will pass.

6. Excellent! If they hear this enough, they might get the message
We need 60 Democrats? Do they think we didn't see what happened with health care reform when we had 60?
