I had my first discussion with a teabagger type saturday |
|
I live in a bit of a bubble, just about everyone where I work is pretty progressive, and Minneapolis is a pretty progressive place in general, so it kind of surprised me. I was taking the bus back from a show I went to Saturday night, and this guy gets on and starts yelling "Michelle Obama for president"...and then a few seconds later, after looking like he was very confused about the words coming out of his mouth, starts yelling "Michele Bachmann for president". And then he starts talking about how the president is a socialist and we're becoming the United Socialist States of America. I had the misfortune of sitting across the aisle from him, and he was directing most of his comments my way, and the way of the older disabled guy sitting in the seat next to me. He's saying stuff like "I'm glad my tax dollars are paying for your disability payments" and stuff like that, in a very sarcastic tone. I pointed out to him that bus fair is 60% subsidized by the government, and that public transportation in general is a very socialist idea. After I said that, he got very red in the face and gave me the 'death stare' as I like to describe it. I just turned and faced the other way, and he ended up getting off at the next stop and left me with the parting words "Fuck all this socialist shit". My thinking is that if you don't want to be surrounded by progressive thinking, socialist public transit, etc etc, you should move someplace that isn't so full of lefties like Minneapolis is, or else you'll just be constantly frustrated by our willingness to help you despite your douchebaggery.

Public profanity is still a crime in some states, if not enforced much....

4. From the moment he got on the bus and started ranting |
|
I knew he was totally high class. I do have to give him credit for actually getting off the bus when I explained how socialist it was. I hope he had a nice long walk home to think about it.

2. Tell him to move to NW Iowa. |
|
Ain't no stinkin' socialists out in places like Orange City, except for the poor, destitute corporate farmers out their making a killing off government farm subsidies. He won't have to worry about socialism for the common man out in places like that.

10. Hey, we don't need any more crazies around here. |
|
I no longer live in NW Ia but travel there frequently. Sioux County is a great place to avoid.
Sounds like you might have some personal experiences too?

12. I'm originally from N.E. Iowa but remember how places like Okoboji are playgrounds for conservatives |
|
and how churches like the Dutch Reformed carry a lot of influence around those parts. I do find it amazing that area did produce Fred Grandy, someone definitely not cut from the same cloth as someone like Terry Branstad or Steven King.

14. And N.W. Iowa also gave us Berkley Bedell. |
|
How we could go from someone like Bedell to the horror of Steve King in a couple decades is mind numbing.
I know what you mean about the Dutch Reformed types. I'm not, but grew up around it. :scared:

3. Careful, he was drunk or crazy or even both |

and you never know how those lunatics are going to react. These are the ticking time bombs and these are the ones hate media are trying to set off.
I usually don't confront them, I just smile and say "Everything you think you know is a lie," and leave it at that. They don't get my tacit agreement but they don't get an argument, either, and they usually manage to blow themselves out within a couple of stops.

that are always ranting about "my taxes", most of them don't have a pot to piss in. I'm gonna guess that he wasn't an eccentric millionaire that takes the bus because his limo is bad for the environment.
