Its just a clusterfuck, that's all it is and all it can be called, a pure clusterfuck
For about a year now I've been searching around here and there trying to lay my finger on the root cause, the heart, the core, the very center of our problem. I thought, well, it must be education. We must have let our education system fall into such a state of disrepair that everything else just turned to shit because there was no one left smart enough to fix anything.

But that's not it. There are plenty of smart people around, plenty of them with good intentions, plenty of them paying attention and laying on hands in good works, but still - everything is fucked up.

And how can this be? We have a wonderful Constitution, a framework beyond compare when it comes to institutionalization of self governance, but still, nothing seems to work right.

So how can this be, how is it that we have the most wonderful framework in which individual liberty is preserved and yet at every turn we are subject to officially sanctioned predation? That's what it is you know, straight forward predation. Is it any wonder that so few of us have time to be creative when virtually all of us have to spend every waking moment defending ourselves against attacks on our identity and purse? These days every simple business venture is loaded with perils, your once trusted local banker is as likely to scalp you as the local used car dealer. One of your biggest expenses is likely insurance cost, insurance on everything - your home, your car, your life, your spouses life, every trinket you own, and possibly your dog; but every insurance policy is a crap shoot. Will they pay or will they not? Who knows, only chance and catastrophe will tell.

All this exists within a myriad of regulation. Every aspect of our daily lives, awake or sleeping, is regulated by someone. At this moment it is likely you are breaking a host of laws you do not even know about, but that's OK because everyone else is too.

Speaking of breaking laws - do you know how many people we have in jail? My god, its a catastrophe all by itself!

And to what can we attribute all this mayhem? Well, its a clusterfuck. Really, that's all it is, pure and simple. We have so complicated every aspect of life that its just a clusterfuck. There is no common sense, not even enough to differentiate between a publically held company brought into creation for no other purpose than to make profit and a god's honest living breathing human being with a mind to think and a ballot to cast. And how can this be other than that the entire world has become one great clusterfuck?

We are engaged in a war against dark skinned people in at least 5 different countries. This is in continuation of the failed policies of a man who is almost universally considered to have been the worst President in the history of our country. Is that not a clusterfuck all by itself?

4. Nail.on.head...
I wish there was something I could say to make it seem like there was really some hope that we can pull our collective asses from the fire. Between the economy to the planet to wars and persecutions...I am deeply sorrowful for the state of our own country, much less those others who are at the end of a U.S. soldier's gun.

Meanwhile I just keep digging in and puling my own weight as much as I can. I am grateful for the assistance that helps us keep a roof over our heads and food on the table and I am hoping that my own business and work and schooling will pay off and lead me to progress soon...but I am also not holding my breath. Meanwhile I am planting a vegetable garden in my rental backyard, I am fostering my own personal growth and good loving relationships with my children, I am finding my daily joys. Because right now it is all we have.

21. yes that R.A.Wilson quote sums everything up
Just watched an amazing documentary on how Mike Reynolds, a very engaging architect, went off to the Andamen Islands in order to find a place where people:

1) wanted to put up the houses he makes out of re-cyclables
2) government bureaucracy doesn't prevent the people from doing it.

After watching that show, I really truly decided to get a passport and get out.

The only "sustainable" ideas this country's bureaucracy is willing to employ is to charge 15 cents on the gallon, affecting the working class the most, and meanwhile the rich get richer and take airplane trips to expensive, limo-infested "Earth sustainable" conferences.

Our food and crop seed has become GMO vomitoxin-based food , with wheat, rice and corn becoming inedible. While the usual PR goes on - Michelle plants her little organic garden, and her husband remains sub serviant to GMO interests such that all the top positions in Agriculture and FDA issues are straight out of the Monsanto Playbook for government control.

10. If I could name one fundamental problem: We have privatized elections.
In most other wealthy, industrialized nations, there are public financing mechanisms to avoid the issue of bribery. If it's labeled taxpayer money, then the politician will feel beholden to nobody but the people at large, not whoever donated the biggest checks.

16. Your words on 'insurance....'
I spoke with my Blue Cross Blue Shield rep yesterday....they are raising my rates 27% just because I got a year older. I've had no illnesses, no hospitals....just one prescription which I stopped last year.

I told her that I truly doubted that if I ever needed the insurance, it would be there. I believe they would find some reason to deny the claim. I got so upset that I had to tell her I would have to call her back.

I got so depressed thinking of what has happened to this clusterf*ck of a nation.

I told her they should start offering free assisted suicide to the 55 to 64 year olds who get sick. They can just die instead of ending up without a penny to leave to their loved ones.

But let's cover those young ones up to 26 years old.

The underside of this bus is like home to me now. I think I'll start sticking out my leg and tripping the rich white boyz who walk by....oh, that's right. They don't walk in my neighborhood.

Wonder if I could get the bus moved to a nice gated community?

I think they start to sock it to you after 55. I've been with them since 2004 when I paid $99/mon. and now it is $300/month. And that's with a $5,000 deductible.

I'll think about it tomorrow. I don't want to get depressed again today.

But, as it is, people will believe the stupidest shit with absolutely no basis in reality. Religion has conditioned them to chuck reason at the door. Ooooh, but it's their "Faith," so you can't say squat about it. :eyes:

23. "the root cause, the heart, the core, the very center of our problem"?
Funny how you started by thinking it must be education, because that's where George Carlin started with his rumination on "the root cause, the heart, the core, the very center of our problem", and eventually Carlin nailed it:

"Not too bright, folks. Not too fucking bright. But if you talk to one of them about this, if you isolate one of them, you sit 'em down rationally, you talk to 'em about the low IQ's and the dumb behavior and the bad decisions; right away they start talking about education. That's the big answer to everything: Education. They say, 'We need more money for education. We need more books, more teachers, more classrooms, more schools. We need more testing for the kids!' You say to 'em, 'Well, you know, we've tried all that and the kids still can't pass the tests'. They say, 'Aw, don't you worry about that, we're gonna lower the passing grades!' And that's what they do in a lot of these schools now, they lower the passing grades so more kids can pass. More kids pass, the school looks good, everybody's happy; the IQ of the country slips another two or three points and pretty soon, all you'll need to get into college is a fucking pencil! 'Gotta pencil? Get the fuck in there, it's physics!' Then everyone wonders why 17 other countries graduate more scientists than we do. Education!

Politicians know that word; they use it on you. Politicians have traditionally hidden behind three things: the flag, the Bible and children. 'No Child Left Behind! No Child Left Behind!' 'Oh really, well it wasn't long ago you were talking about giving kids a Head Start! Head Start, Left Behind, someone's losing fucking ground here!' But there's a reason. There's a reason. There's a reason for this. There's a reason education sucks and it's the same reason it will never, ever, ever be fixed. It's never going to get any better, don't look for it, be happy with what you got. Because the owners of this country don't want that.

I'm talking about the real owners now. The big, wealthy...The real owners, the big wealthy business interests that control things and make all the important decisions. Forget the politicians, they're an irrelevancy. The politicians are put there to give you the idea that you have freedom of choice. You don't. You have no choice. You have owners. They own you. They own everything. They own all the important land. They own and control the corporations. They've long since bought and paid for the Senate, the Congress, the statehouses, the city halls. They've got the judges in their back pockets, and they own all the big media companies, so they control just about all of the news and information you get to hear. They've got you by the balls! They spend billions of dollars every year lobbying – lobbying to get what they want. Well, we know what they want; they want more for themselves and less for everybody else.

But I'll tell you what they don't want. They don't want a population of citizens capable of critical thinking. They don't want well-informed, well-educated people capable of critical thinking.
They're not interested in that! That doesn't help them. That's against their interests. That's right! You know something? They don't want people who are smart enough to sit around the kitchen table and figure out how badly they're getting fucked by a system that threw them overboard 30 fucking years ago. They don't want that! You know what they want? They want Obedient Workers – Obedient Workers. People who are just smart enough to run the machines and do the paperwork but just dumb enough to passively accept all these increasingly shittier jobs with the lower pay, the longer hours, the reduced benefits, the end of overtime and the vanishing pension that disappears the minute you go to collect it. And, now, they're coming for your Social Security money. They want your fucking retirement money. They want it back, so they can give it to their criminal friends on Wall Street. And you know something? They'll get it. They'll get it all from you, sooner or later, because they own this fucking place. It's a big club - and you ain't in it! You and I are not in the big club.

By the way, it's the same big club they use to beat you over the head with all day long and they tell you what to believe...All day long, beating you over the head in the media, what to believe, what to think and what to buy...The table is tilted, folks! The game is rigged! And nobody seems to notice, and nobody seems to care! Good honest, hard-working people! White collar, blue collar... Doesn't matter what color shirt you have on! Good honest, hard-working people continue...These are people of modest means!...continue to elect these rich cocksuckers who don't give a fuck about them! They don't give a fuck about you! They don't give a fuck about you! They don't care about you! At all! At all! At all! Yeah! You know? And nobody seems to notice, nobody seems to care. That's what the owners count on. The fact that Americans probably will remain willfully ignorant of the big red white and blue dick that's being jammed up their assholes every day! Because the owners of this country know the truth - it's called the American Dream: because you have to be asleep to believe it."

26. Don't buy into all the premises you were taught in civics
"We have the most wonderful framework in which individual liberty is preserved and yet at every turn we are subject to officially sanctioned predation?"

You assume something without asking the question seriously: we have the first democratic Constitution, and the longest lasting, but is it "the best?" What was the first car you ever owned? The first computer? You wouldn't keep them for 200 years and still assume that they are the best: don't assume our Constitution is the best, unless you've made an extensive comparative analysis of constitutions.

You hint at part of the problem when you note that our system "preserves individual liberty," while also noting we have the largest prison population in the world. Perhaps ours does not promote individual liberty as much as other nations?

The problem isn't that there is too much regulation, but regulation on the wrong people. Corporations are destroying middle class America, but other nations don't have this problem. Why? because they regulate those fuckers.
