doing some research and lord I love learning new stuff.
You see we did have some early slavery in the colonies, but not the kind you think. These were WHITE convicts, who were condemned to work the plantations in Barbados and places hither, but who at times ended up in Virginia and New England.
Yes, before there was Botany Bay, there was the Colonies that would become the US at one time. We were... essentially, the Gulag Archipelago of the time. Oh and some of these people EARNED their freedom and went on to have kids and those kids went on to fight for independence.
Ah one of those aspects that even our early historians liked to ignore. Black Slavery, sure why not? Oh and this is NOT indentured servitude either. This is down right, slavery.
I guess that will change Thanksgiving a tad for me.

Over the years I've lost quite a bit of respect for Bancrofft... it just continues.
Yes I know when he wrote some things were ahem... not socially touchable but still...
