3. I follow the travels of a truckdriver who is also a photographer
He has posted some beautiful photographs of the memorial:

I have to admit I love all of the galleries he has there.
My son is addicted to his dash cam...and the cat who goes with him wherever he drives.

4. if the memorial and the little chairs doesn't break your heart
all of the personal items on the fence will.

It is just amazing in a somber sort of way. Definitely worth the time to see and remember.

6. I like the "moment in time" theme
many people don't get that until they have processed their thoughts after visiting.

9. Visit it at night ...

... with the lights shining through.

You live in/around OKC?

I don't like going during the day. Not sure why. I go there at time sometimes though and just commune. I was away from OK for about three years and didn't go during that time. It was one of the first places I went when I got back.

I lost people there.

This is always a hard day. It's been made harder than normal this particular day. Seems to be more hype and more of a desire to use it by people of all kinds of ideological stripes to form the basis of whatever soap box they want to stand on at the moment. Some fuckwit I (now formerly) had as a friend on Facebook started the day with that "tree of liberty/blood of patriots" thing. I posted pictures of the children at the daycare center on his wall and then blocked the little 20-something asshole who doesn't know shit about shit.

Eh ... sorry. I'm ranting.

10. Here's a very nice seamless panorama that allows you to virtually visit the memorial
Edited on Tue Apr-20-10 12:04 AM by fishwax
The first link has a 360 degree rendering from three different locations outside: from in the middle of the field of empty chairs, from the middle of the reflecting pool, and from right by the 9:03 gate -- http://host.newspin360.net/okcnationalmemorial2/

The second link has a 360 degree view from two rooms inside the museum: one showing the photographs of those killed and one showing the chaos of the aftermath -- http://host.newspin360.net/okcnationalmemorial1/

I haven't been to the memorial in a long time. (I moved away from Oklahoma about five years ago, but before that I got up there several times, at various stages of its development.) I agree with you that it is somber but very moving. I think they did a tremendous job with it.
