1. What was up with Mika and Joan when Joan first came on?

Joan said she couldn't find a comparable voice on the Left like Rush and Beck on the Right. First Mika tried to shut Joan's line of reasoning down. Then Mika started mocking her with a whiny voice and saying "You know who it is. It's STARING you in the face!"

Joan looked really taken aback by Mika's nastiness. Chris, in the control room, had his hand on his forehead and said briskly to Mika to go to wherever she needed to next (to get off the subject).

Mika just destroyed whatever credibility she had. She came out of her little corner to defend Joe in a way that left no doubt how involved she is with him now.

They all seemed to "recover" but it is clear that this is a subject that Mika will NOT discuss EVER.

I didn't see where Eugene Robinson was anymore than his mild-mannered thoughful self. And that one paragraph is nothing but the damn truth. That was a weird bit by both Mika and Joe this morning against Joan this morning. They probably wanted to call out Olbermann but can't because he's on MSNBC, but even KO except once or twice even at most vitriolic is telling the truth. The one time I thought KO went over the line was on some comments he made about Scott Brown. And he was tough on Hillary during the primaries though at that point I thought he was right about her campaign.

The overhyped Tea Party phenomenon is more about symbolism and screaming than anything else. A "movement" that encompasses gun nuts, tax protesters, devotees of the gold standard, Sarah Palin, insurance company lobbyists, "constitutionalists" who have not read the Constitution, Medicare recipients who oppose government-run health care, crazy "birthers" who claim President Obama was born in another country, a contingent of outright racists (come on, people, let's be real) and a bunch of fat-cat professional politicians pretending to be "outsiders" is not a coherent intellectual or political force.

But even people who wouldn't be caught dead at a Tea Party rally have lost trust in powerful institutions that are supposed to be working in the public's interest -- with considerable reason. Just look at the headlines.
