It's been said before but I'll say it again . . . |
|
I’m getting God Damn tired of hearing how the Government can’t do anything right.
Ever hear of a disease called Small Pox? Once the scourge of the whole world? Well. I’ve got a little round scar on my left shoulder because my government vaccinated me for free at my elementary school. Now the only place that Small Pox exists is in a frozen test tube in Fort Detrick or some other germ warfare site. Wiped from the face of the Earth by our government.
How about Polio? Once the greatest fear for parents of young children in the United States it is now only found in third world countries thanks to Dr. Jonas Salk and our government. Malaria? Tuberculosis? Almost completely gone from the U.S. because of our government and thanks to our government HIV will someday join them.
How about that Interstate Highway system? Designed, funded and built by the US government.
Like the way it’s being used or not you’ve got to agree that our Military is the finest and best equipped force in the world—and it’s all volunteer and all federal government all the time. So is the FBI, CIA, BATF and all those other alphabet soup agencies that stand between you and those who would do you harm.
When you buy a gallon of gas, how do you know it’s really a gallon and not three quarts? The Bureau of Weights and Measures insures you get what you pay for.
When you take an aspirin how do you know it doesn’t have strychnine in it? The FDA made sure of it.
Is your drinking water safe? Yes because some government bureaucracy tested it.
Want to know where every sex offender lives? Check the government website.
Federal, State, County and City governments doing what we ask them to do and doing it as best they can with what little we pay them in taxes.
Tell ya’ what Tea Baggers, if your house catches fire don’t call the fire department, call the local TEA Party.

3. The problem is, people don't have a clue how much government does for them |
|
But it is too easy to sit on your couch and listen to the talking heads on FOX tell you that since Obama became President that the government is going to make you a socialist.
Lazy Americans.

8. More BIG GOVMINT Programs: |
|
ALL of the following are Big Government Programs...publicly funded programs providing communal services or protections. Many of these programs are in danger of being privatized.
I like being reasonably sure that when I turn on my faucet, water comes out.
I like knowing that when I buy gas, I get a real gallon. (Bureau of Weights & Measures ?)
When I eat at a restaurant, I like being reasonably sure there isn't a rat turd in my soup. :( (Health Dept.)
I like being reasonably sure that my airliner won't crash into another. (FAA)
I like the knowledge that if my ship sinks, I can call someone to rescue me. (Coast Guard)
I like flipping my switch and a light coming on even for those who live in the woods. (Rural Electrification)
I like it that it doesn't flood every time it rains. (Corp of Engineers) I like commerce being able to use our rivers for transportation. (Corp of Engineers)
I like the pictures from Hubble. (NASA)
I like believing that when I take a pill for an illness, I'll probably be OK. (FDA)
I like knowing that if my girlfriend gets makeup in her eye, she probably won't go blind. (FDA)
I like knowing that even if my bank president runs off with the money, I'll probably still be able to get my savings. (FDIC)
I like knowing that if my neighbor starts dumping toxic waste in HIS yard, I can stop him.
I like knowing that if my house catches on fire, someone will come to put it out.
I like being able to call the Police if I need them.
I like knowing when hurricane or tornado is approaching. (Weather Bureau)
I like it that McDonalds and Wal-Mart can't exploit children. (Child Labor Laws)
I like knowing that someone is watching out for epidemics. (Center for Disease Control)
I like knowing that Farmers (Large and Small) have access to information that lets them make good decisions concerning crops and land usage. (Bureau of Land Management & Farm Bureau?)
(added by DUer “Iowa”)
--I like knowing that I can seek assistance if my employer creates a deadly work environment. (OSHA)
--I like knowing that my parents have a decent income and medical care in their old age. (Social Security) (Medicare)
--I like it when people who are too disabled to support themselves aren't forced to be beggars. (SSI/SSDI)
--I like being able to afford to educate my kids. (Public Education) (Pell Grants)
--I like it when incompetent/impaired physicians are removed from practice. (state boards of examiners)
--I like to see snake-pit nursing homes fined and shut-down. (State Inspections & Appeals)
--I like it when a person injured on the job can get some financial help with retraining and job placement. (Vocational Rehabilitation)
The list is endless. Most of the people who work for the government are making our lives better - they are us. However, private sector corporations have perverted some (not all) government functions. What we need is not less government, but a strong government that is in the hands of the people and used to keep corporations in check. We need not only separation of church and state - we need separation of big business and state.
---I like the security of knowing that the bridges on our Interstate Highway System won't suddenly collapse. (DoT) (OOPS!)
---I like the comfort of knowing that the heavy trucks sharing our Highways & Interstates are regulated, licensed, and inspected! (DoT)(OOPS!)

let's just see what a teabagger world without "socialist goverment regulation" would be like..
and..might I add, WHY (when we do) have massive outbreaks of e coli or salmonella, what is the primary reason for such suffering? NOT ENOUGH GOVT. OVERSIGHT of the food supply.

11. You just don't understand Market Forces |
|
Edited on Tue Apr-20-10 01:31 PM by Ratty
Interstate highways: Private companies would have built them eventually just like they did the railroads. You have a choice to use them and pay the toll or not, instead of being forced to pay through taxes, even if you never use them. Sure, monopolies might develop and highway owners might choose not to allow access to trucks belonging to competitors in other corporate interests, but those competitors can just build their own highways or use hot air balloons or zeppelins or something to deliver their goods cross country. Natural disasters? When relief supplies and evacuees need to be gotten into and out of stricken areas you can always count on corporations to do the right thing and waive any tolls and fees for the good of humanity.
Weights and measures: Again, private companies with trademarked "seals of approval." They couldn't be bought or bribed because their livelihood depends on the consumer's trust so they're automatically self-regulating.
Aspirin, drinking water, etc. Same as above. Trademarked seals of approval. Again perfectly self-regulating. When a few thousand people die because of a tainted product, well that company goes out of business and so does the verifying company. Sure, it may take a few instances of people dieing but eventually market forces would sort things out and the trustworthy companies would trickle up to the top (this is called "self-correction").
Fire departments: Hey, if you can't afford to pay the private fire companies then you're a leech on society and shouldn't be living in a house anyway.
And just in case: :sarcasm:

12. So, basically, the baggers are anarchist? |
|
They prefer anarchy?
They want to do as they damn well please?
Then why do they go around telling everyone else how THEY want us to live? You know they do. They'd like nothing better than control us at every turn.
The New Tea Party is a tea made from bs. Hypocritical bs.
