Tier 5 unemployment benefits - what's going on?
Anybody following the story on Tier 5 unemployment benefits? I am one of those whose Tier 4 benefits have been exhausted. Most of us were under the impression that those benefits would be extended by HR 4851, which Congress passed last week. But that was not the case. I called my Congressman's (Gregg Harper -R) office, and their staff said that another bill, HR 4213 (sponsored by Rep. Charles Rangel -D) had passed the House and Senate, but was having problems in conference over funding issues (objections by Republicans, who else?) However, I called Rangel's office, and the staff member said that Tier 5 unemployment benefits were not included in the bill.

Does anyone know the story on extension of Tier 5 unemployment benefits?

3. I called Harry Reid's office...
and they said that there has been no discussion in Congress of Tier 5 unemployment benefits. I urge people to call the offices of Reid, 202 224 3542, and Nancy Pelosi, 202 225 4965, and demand that Congress enact Tier 5 benefits NOW!

5. They are hoping folks forget about the millions of long term under and unemployed.
All the recession is over happy talk and things are getting better baloney is being repeated ad nauseum to aid in that end.

A permanent underclass of under and unemployed americans. That's good for wall street and it's great for corporations. A desperate pool of millions of previously productive americans getting no help from the government is heaven for the investor class.

Just remember there is no such thing as a jobless recovery. That's a figment of the rather twisted imagination of the reagan era. Show me stats on steadily increasing numbers of living wage jobs, jobs that blue collar americans can raise a family, buy a house and take regular vacations on. Then we might be in recovery.

Take a look at this post and then those here on DU in the investor class, show me the recovery.
