Question about the 2010 Census
Did everyone get a 10 question survey? I could not believe that my census was only 10 measly questions! No questions about education, salary, guns, sexual preference, not even a question about how many bathrooms or TV's in the home. Actually, it was a little disappointing. Did a percentage of the folks get a complete survey or did every household get the same 10 questions? What was all of the fuss about?

3. Thanks for the link.
I just can't believe all of the right wing hoopla that we were subjected to in the run up! I guess I should have known.

2. I didn't get anything.
I have a PO Box and live on a boat. We do not have a slip or any place we spend more that a few weeks at a time.

I wonder how many people like me - on boats, rv's, nomads, homeless - never get counted at all?

5. I hadn't thought of that.
Without a seasonal slip or camp site some will fall through the cracks. It seems like I see more and more nomads on the streets.

12. From the Census website
33. What are “Be Counted” forms?
Be Counted forms are census forms that are available at various community locations for use by people who either did not receive a census form in the mail or who believe they were not otherwise included on any other census form. Be Counted forms will be available in English, Spanish, Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese and Russian. The form should be picked up and mailed back in the attached postage-paid envelope. The deadline for mailing a Be Counted form is May 1, 2010.

13. OK, thanks. I am not sure what a "various community location" is, but I wonder if
it is a place that people with no fixed address are likely to go.

I didn't see any at the post office when I was there a week ago, and I haven't seen any in this little town I am in now. Will see if I can find it and print it (guess I will have to use my own stamp!).

Thanks, again.

8. You'll get counted when the census worker comes by and visits.
Just don't go shooting him and all.

;)

9. I don't think any census workers will be coming by to see me.
Unless they get some dinghy's, they are going to miss everyone who lives on the hook.

4. The "long form" used to sent to only a portion of census households
I think this is the first time since 1940 that the long form, the "American Community Survey," is not included as part of the decennial count. Instead, it is conducted separately, on an ongoing basis, instead of once every ten years.

18. Every year about 3% of the population gets what used to be called the 'long form'
Its called the American Community Survey and it's very involved. They used to do it every 10 years, now they do it every year. If you were unhappy with getting too few questions this year you will be overjoyed when you get the ACS.
