“Jesus is Lord” plate unconstitutional, says AG

A plate that includes the phrase “Jesus is Lord” would violate the state and federal constitutions, the state attorney general says in an opinion out today.

Responding to a question from state Sen. Eric Stewart, Attorney General Bob Cooper says the plate would violate the establishment clauses of both constitutions. Proceeds from the sale of the plate would have benefited a non-profit, non-religiously affiliated organization, which the opinion identifies as the Children’s Advocacy Center.

The opinion is similar to ones the AG issued last year that said plate recognizing the Church of God in Christ and The Lord’s Child charity would have been violated the constitution.

2. Why would a state even consider putting something like that on a license plate?
:wtf:

But then again my state gave the world Nixon, Reagan, and Rick Warren so I'm not surprised by this.

6. "Jesus is Lord" license plates
For those times when your gilt-edged Bible, oversized cross, decals on the windows, bumper stickers, and loud, lousy Christian music blaring from the tape deck aren't quite enough to annoy everyone in the vicinity. Better get it on the license plate, too, or Jesus will be p-i-s-t mad!

the government. You can say 'Elvis is Lord' on a plate if it's not sold by the government. Private concerns can root for whomever they choose.
I'm a bit put off that our local junior high schools double as Baptist churches on Sunday. I guess it's OK if they're being paid, but I'll bet if went to them with a Buddhist or Islamic church, even at a higher rate, I'd be turned down. Thank God I'm not religious. (snicker)
On edit: Are you talking about licensee plates? If so, that's not constitutional. I thought you meant eating plates.

8. I guess there is a debate..
A license plate from another state can be worn on a vehicle if the jurisdiction and local laws permits it.

A License plate is up on your butt, if you pay for it, and so desire....you should wear it, accordingly.

9. let's hope it doesn't reach the supreme court. alito would call that a secular statement.
i mean, merely stating that jesus is lord, that's a pretty uncontroversial, fact-based statement for a christian nation such as ours. in alito's mind, it wouldn't be establishing religion until it picked one christian denomination over another.

and now for the emoticon:
:sarcasm: or , you decide....

a nice bumper sticker next to it. That way the rest of us know to watch out for dangerous driving.
