Chuck Norris says "Don't mess with Texas"...threatens liberals with branding irons.
From Susan Ohanian's blog, as I just don't want to link to Town Hall to give traffic.

Norris is back on his don't mess with us religious theme.

Chuck Norris :: Townhall.com Columnist Don't Mess With Texas... Textbooks!

Susan's comment:

Chuck Norris serves on the board of directors of the National Council on Bible Curriculum in Public Schools, an organization promoting the use of the Bible in public schools, and also speaks on behalf of organizations advocating official prayers in public schools. The reader comments at the Town Hall site are way more over the top than Chuck is.

This is from March. Norris's comments.

Liberals and progressives complain that conservatives are hijacking the curriculum process and modifying textbooks to fit their ideological whims. But the history of textbook alterations clearly has proved it is the liberals who have changed the course and content of curricula and textbook production. Conservatives have been largely the guardians or preservationists of tradition. Progressives have changed curricula content to pacify the politically correct and adopt what they value today and want others to value tomorrow.

..."Maintaining balanced curricula in our public schools is the reason my wife, Gena, and I joined the board of the National Council on Bible Curriculum in Public Schools, whose state-certified Bible course (elective) has been implemented in 532 public school districts (2,035 high schools) in 38 states. Visit http://www.BibleInSchools.net"> Bible in Schools for more information.

As I wrote in my newly released and expanded paperback version of "Black Belt Patriotism," if you want to join me in stopping educational corruption, gridlock and tyranny, then consider doing any of the following:

.."--Get involved in local, state and national politics, and make your voice heard. The time for passivity is over. As Thomas Jefferson once said, "All tyranny needs to gain a foothold is for people of good conscience to remain silent."

.."My personal warning to educational tyranny and tyrants is this: It's best not to test or mess with Texas. If you thought we fought hard for the Alamo, wait until you see what we can do for the right to educate our children. You can hide behind your No. 2 pencils, but our branding irons will find your tail sides.

He threatens liberals with branding irons?

Not the first time he has pushed his religious views.

Chuck Norris urges getting religion back in the public schools

Council board member and actor Chuck Norris has described this curriculum as the "first step to get God back into your public school."

Currently 8 percent of public schools nationwide offer courses on the Bible. The Supreme Court has deemed these classes constitutional so long as they "present knowledge, but neither promote nor disparage belief." Odessa residents are thus challenging the course's execution and not its existence. The district chose the more controversial of two leading Bible class curricula: a course designed by the National Council on Bible Curriculum in Public Schools, a group run by a veritable Who's Who of conservative Christian leaders. Council board member and actor Chuck Norris has described this curriculum as the "first step to get God back into your public school."

I remember watching "Return of the Dragon" growing up. Bruce Lee kicked Chuck Norris ass severely. Broke his leg, arm, fingers, and neck. Left his ass in helluva wreak. Even pulled hair from his hairy ass. Maybe will need to resurrect Bruce and have him kick Chuck ass again. Here's the scene:

10. Does Norris need some attenton?
Actor ... publicity?

I look at throwing religion into PUBLIC schools the same way I would see Satanists or Atheists trying to push an ideology on children in an institution where it is mandatory for them to attend and that is specifically provided for learning non-secular subjects and skills. Not that I would be against the study of philosophies, ideologies, and comparative religion since that is broad and encourages understanding and critical thinking.

People choose whatever church or coven or coffee house they will engage in various, non-scholastic activities. It has no place in schools unless they are private, otherwise, it is simply indoctrination of innocents who have not yet developed the skills or maturity to accept or reject what is being promulgated.

Here's some more reasons...

Chuck Norris can set ants on fire with a magnifying glass. At night.

Chuck Norris once kicked a horse in the chin. Its decendants are known today as Giraffes.

Chuck Norris is capable of photosynthesis.

67. Well, according to a diary of a Mexican officer
Crockett didn't die fighting but was executed after the battle by Santa Ana's forces. There is, admittedly some debate about whether or not the diary is real, but from what I've read, tests on the page in which Crockett's death is described seem to indicate it is genuine. That's what real history is about - research, debate and more research. I don't think that Norris is capable of understanding that.

87. I'll pull out my branding iron and my grandfather's iron from his panhandle days
What a douchebag - he makes the error of assuming that everyone on "the other side" of the discussion must fit his stereotypical view of them.

Stereotypes have a limited function, but Norris relies on them to his own detriment in this case. I hear he was actually very proficient with his martial arts skills, although from what I saw, a very bad actor. His statements always make me think he just isn't that bright, and that he is not confident.

I find some people with whom I disagree to be confident about their position and politics, but they don't go running around making empty threats and stupid pronouncements like this guy does. They don't feel threatened enough to need to do so, unlike Norris.

In that respect, I feel a little bitty of pitty for "Mr. Horseface who now hawks exercise equipment because he is too old to be as good as he used to be with his martial arts gig".

That's right Chuck, you are repeating a socialist, government slogan. You are a member of the red brigade.

As a side note, how can schools possibly teach the Bible in a belief-nuetral way. If they are teaching facts about the context and where the Bible really came from and the scientific evidence that disproves most of what it claims--isn't that necessarily teaching against belief?

137. Since when has religion been in public schools?
Edited on Fri Apr-23-10 11:38 PM by vduhr
It has never been taught in public schools. The only religion that has been taken out of public schools is in the reference to Christmas, which is now referred to as Winter holiday, Easter vacation as Spring break (although colleges have always referred to Spring break), and in the Pledge of Allegiance (and only a few schools have dropped the "...One nation under God" - my grandson's school still uses 'under God' because he thinks God sits on an invisible chair "under God indivisable" LOL). Prayer has never been allowed in any public school I know of. The seperation of Church and State has always applied. Well, perhaps not "always", but I'm 60 years old and never had to say a prayer in a public school, nor was I required to study religion.

140. I think your situation was not typical - for that part of the country anyway.
I went to public schools in the 1950s in Oklahoma and was required in several different classes to memorize and recite many different bible verses. It failed to register on me how offensive it was to my Jewish friends for years...until I got into High School when I began to notice. When the 'under god' was added to the pledge, I refused to stand and recite it. My 'home room' teacher was a fundy (who incidentally loved and passed out copies of the Protocols of the ...elders of Zion for us to read) and he threatened me on many occasions to have me expelled for refusing the pledge. I told him "go ahead and try...I dare you". Finally he gave up and backed down.

141. ACLU Scholarship Winner Takes On Texas Textbook Takeover
Yesterday, we posted about the Texas Textbook Takeover and what you can do to stop it. We hope you'll join us in taking action, and we wanted to tell you about a former ACLU scholarship winner who's also getting involved!

Matthew LaClair has been standing up for religious freedom since high school, when he fought back against the promotion of creationism and other religious beliefs in the classroom and helped form the Student Education Assembly on Religious Freedom. This Sunday, April 25 at 6:30 p.m. EDT on WBAI 99.5FM, Matthew will host a lively discussion with Dr. Don McLeroy, a member of the Texas State Board of Education, who is leading the board's movement to rewrite history. Tune in here, or if you miss the show, here.

Matthew is no stranger to textbook controversy. In 2008, while a high school student in Kearny, New Jersey, he challenged misleading information contained in his textbook on U.S. government and enlisted the Center for Inquiry to issue a report on the book's contents. As a result, some of the inaccuracies were corrected in the next edition of the book. Matthew wrote about his experience and why he decided to stand up for his rights here.
