Facebook has changed privacy stuff today...
You might want to go to FB privacy settings/applications/instant personalization and set it "off" - I did. I just don't want FB to hand my info to websites I visit in order to "personalize" my experience...

1. Thank you. I just took care of mine. And will do so for Mr. kt, who is away on business right now.
I can't believe the automatically do such things. If they want to offer it, fine. But to make me opt out? I don't like that. x(

3. agreed - offering would be one thing - but making us opt out WITHOUT telling us?

36. You need to have javascript enabled.
I use NoScript on Firefox and it wouldn't let me uncheck it until I allowed javascript on that page.

4. Thank you, this is what they say about it...
What you share when visiting applications and websites

Applications you use will access your Facebook information in order for them to work. For example, a review application uses your location in order to surface restaurant recommendations.

When you visit a Facebook-enhanced application or website, it may access any information you have made visible to Everyone (Edit Profile Privacy) as well as your publicly available information. This includes your Name, Profile Picture, Gender, Current City, Networks, Friend List, and Pages. The application will request your permission to access any additional information it needs.

5. I find it disgusting that this is an "opt out" feature - especially since FB did NOT mention it.
It may soon be time to delete the FB account.....

23. That's what I did the last time they expanded the info they share
about users...I think it was "the publicly-available version of your profile will show up in Google results unless you opt-out" at that time. About 6 months ago.

FB had been weirding me out as it was - I'm too introverted to really enjoy a site where my boss, my grandpa, and kids that knew me in 2nd grade are all in one place and talking to me. That privacy change was the motivator factor to make me say, "Yeah, I'm done."

They also make it difficult to actually delete your account instead of just "deactivate" it. Deactivating means no one sees you on their friends lists anymore and can't send you messages...but the second you log back into FB, your account is restored 100% as it was and all your friends are notified that you're back. Ugh...how creepy is that?

The link to actually DELETE your account is http://www.facebook.com/help/contact.php?show_form=delete_account.

10. Can I say "I hate facebook"////
Anyhow, it isn't setting to "off". it is unclicking the checked "allow" (That is how I see it, after finally getting to the page.)

7. Thanks. Just took care of it.
But when I was setting it to 'off,' it said something about your friends still being able to share public information about you when they use it (or something like that). I'm not quite sure what that means.

14. Turning a buck through marketing
information from its users, just like everywhere else on the internet. Even here at DU, Google Ads for you appear based on the words you are typing or reading (unless you donate to DU and get them turned off that way).

24. May I ask how you did that?
There is a check mark next to 'allow'; when I click on it to remove it, it only offers confirm or cancel -- clicking either one leaves the check mark...

34. I just did:
- account
- privacy settings
- at the bottom, there is an "allow" box that was checked. I just unchecked it and it seems to have stayed unchecked.

No "interests". No "relationship" information. No political or religious affiliations. No quotes. Fuck 'em. My friends all pretty much know that stuff anyway.

Uncheck everything under 'Applications & Websites' -> 'What your friends can share about you'

28. Facebook privacy settings are ridiculous. Since I never had any idea who saw what I closed it down.
Facebook was obviously designed by a bunch of dummies. Its privacy settings are ridiculously designed. And as you pointed out once you set up your account all of your information is spread everywhere. Their settings are a joke.

31. I have thought about deleting mine...
the only real reason I keep it is because of the great feeds I get from the political pages. However, I have noticed that FB doesn't allow you to keep those pages private which allows everyone to see. I'm not too comfortable with that, especially because a lot of them are pages that express hatred of Republicans.
