Please add me to the list of newly employed DUers. |
|
Well not officially just yet but very, very soon! God I hope this works out, really could use the $$ right now something fierce.
Got a call from the Census Bureau wanting to know if I'm available for the 4 days of training!! LOL, I'd forgotten about it and figured getting a job, even a part-time or temporary one, was not going to happen for me anytime soon.
Vernon was my interviewer and as he went on with his phone interview he described what enumerators do, etc. So I said gee, that sounds like what I was doing during the '08 election and we both burst out laughing when he said yea, sounds like already know how this works. Like it was some sort of inside joke . It really is if you've had to search for addresses of folks who live off the beaten path  or have 9 pitbulls in their front yards
Anyhow, first thing I'm buying is a couple cans of mace ;). 2nd thing is I gotta slide my DU a few bucks cause I know Skinner could use it.
So next Tuesday I start the 9-5, 4 day training as an enumerator - gosh now I'm nervous  Hope I don't fudge it up - this household needs it's wheels greased in the worst way and my undies need replacin', holy drawers ain't cool!!!
Wish me luck DU!!! Love y'all!!

We live in an out of the way place up in Caswell county..but you wont have to come see us we sent ours in. My aunt is doing census in Kansas and I worry about her she was telling me about going up back roads that had trees branchs that really tore up the paint on her truck, its not new, she has had it a long time and sees no prospect of buying another any time soon. She has been struggling with unemployment for several years too.

I'm also just a little bit curious as to how many returned their census papers. I know NC turned purple but there's some heavy fundie/Republican, Faux flavored people around here, hopefully I won't run into any crazy ones. Haven't heard my neighbors say too much about it.
I can definitely relate about those backwoods dirt roads, ditches, branches and brambles really well and hope I can squeeze by the worst of them without too much damage. The job is such a gift right now I'm going to keep a smile on my face and think positive thoughts!!

I have a friend who did this on the previous census. This census, he hires the workers and is a regional supervisor making good money! He has a business fixing those nasty "blue screens of death" on computers and once worked for IBM, so any computer or IT experience is a plus for those applying for these census jobs. Also, experience using a GPS is handy.

It's fool proof. Even the test and I only tell you that so you don't freak out when your crew leader says the word. It's open book, no problem at all.
If you go through the glossary and learn all the acronyms the first evening, it will help enormously.
And don't forget you get 50 cents a mile too, so if they want someone to do rural areas, grab it!
Good Luck and Have Fun!!
