1. It's the republican debate, party of white middle aged men.
Edited on Thu May-03-07 10:43 PM by illinoisprogressive
I think Fox purged the party of any of those unwanted minorities. But, the top 4 dem. presidential candidates, only one is a white male.

3. As a former Republican
me being Puerto Rican of African descent (a black Latin American), I have to admit I was a rarity. Not even a "token", a rarity. Many white Republicans were quite friendly to me, but it was like they didn't even know how to approach me... it was very bizarre.

5. So how did that happen?
A black Puerto Rican Republican? Curious Curious.

And, who do you like De La Hoya or Mayweather? I'm thinking Mayweather because he's just a teenz younger and just one of the best fighters ever. Although I've always had a soft spot for Oscar too.

9. Mayweather by UD
I think it will be a dull fight, first of all. Mayweather is a master boxer which, most of the times, bases his game on defensive ability more than offense (exceptions would be the Corrales and the Gatti fight). He has advantages on youth, speed, ring intelligence and defense.

DLH is a great fighter, no doubt, but he's 34 and not even close to what he used to be 8 years ago. Except for his Mayorga blowout (Trinidad and him abused the Nicaraguan madman), DLH has basically lost his last major fights, including the Sturm robbery. Even in the Mayorga fight, DLH looked old (fighting flat-footed, got caught with super-wide shots that he probably could see coming from a mile away). So, even though he is the bigger man with the power advantage, it won't help him much against a prime Mayweather that will bring his A game to the fight. Also, don't forget DLH gets tired after 7 or 8 rounds, so expect him to slow down considerably after chasing Mayweather around the ring and catching some good leather in the process. Mayweather will probably make a bit of a show in the last 4 rounds nailing DLH constantly with some quick flurries.

Mayweather by UD, with the scorecards in the 116-112 range (8 rounds to 4).

About my relationship with the GOP... well... it's a long story...

15. I like technical fights
So I won't likely think it dull. The only kind of fight I really can't stand is when one or the other is timid, noting the fine difference between timid and smart. I see it pretty much like you, maybe a little closer. Unless Oscar really digs down and remembers why he's a fighter, then it could be awesome!

My husband and sons boxed. I can't escape it!

18. I also like technical fights, but
Remember Mayweather-Baldomir? Not that I'm comparing DLH and Baldomir, but Floyd knows how to make a fight dull.

So boxing is in your family! That's awesome! The only boxer in my family was Pedro Montañez, a very good lightweight in the 30s who fought Lou Ambers and Henry Armstrong.

21. Oh, just amateur
My oldest son made it to some national events, he was at a camp at Colorado Springs with Fernando Vargas and some small black kid who I can't remember his name, but has done okay as a pro. My husband coached for a few years. My daughter even went to some practices when she was young, really shocked the boys when she was a VERY pretty teen-ager -- who knew how to throw a punch! So it was alot of fun, but nothing like your family!

Isn't Mayweather the kind of fighter who rises to the skill level of his challenger? Not sure on that. So maybe they will bring out the best in each other.

I was thinking that it's been a while since I heard the Repuglicans claim to be a 'big tent' party...

8. That's one reason they selected Simi Valley
There are some African Americans that live there but they know and I know and the world should know, we are not welcomed in that group.

Larry Elder should have been there however.

12. my dad used to mention exactly that.
He said "you can tell which party it is by the audience" at the National Political Conventions on TV.

Growing up as a Dem and going to lots of party confabs, there was no big deal hanging out with Hispanics and Blacks.

And the fact that the delegates came in all shapes, sizes and colors.

There's nothing sadder than drunk Democrats at a state convention who have run outta booze at 3 am and are riding the hotel elevators looking for some. It was quite amusing!!!

14. Evidently J C Watts couldn't attend.

Or they would have sat him down in front so the cameras could get a good shot of him just to show how 'diverse' they are. :sarcasm:

16. That's an interesting observation. I know JC peripherally, through Tom Coburn
and hadn't even thought about that. It actually is a bit odd he wasn't there. Hmmmm

Not sure what it means.

in prime camera positions. No, no Blacks were shown tonight. Surprise.

Such an inclusive party. My husband said, "My God, where's Armstrong Williams?" Good question.
