I just saw this and tried to find a post on it on DU but could not so I wanted to post for those that haven't seen it. It will make you gasp that this was "left" for the Taliban to purge! Video at end of article:

Footage of Taliban fighters swarming a former U.S. military mountain-top base in Afghanistan has been aired on a major satellite TV station.
Just days after American forces withdrew from the Korengal Valley – which has seen some of the toughest fighting in the Afghan war – armed insurgents can be seen over-running the area.
The video, which was shown yesterday on Al-Jazeera television, will be seen as a morale boost for Taliban.

1. It's a cunning plan.
Give them time to dig caves to live in, bring in goats to have sex with and them drop a MOAB on them.

This is not the first time we've paid in blood for ground we just walked away from.

3. They have their own communities, complete with women and children.
They didn't leave much at that base - just trash.

It's time to get our combat troops out of the entire Middle East.

STOP THE FUCKING BOMING - ON ALL SIDES. :grr:

10. Well I didn't see any signs of any ammo being left behind, just trash.
At least in the video - that link of bullets around the guys neck ain't much if that is all they have. Place looked like a real shithole, glad our forces are out of there.

11. Some points to consider
First, we were done in the area. We withdrew voluntarily, taking all usable things with us except the fuel, which we gave to villagers in the area.

Second, it's their country. I don't like them either, but it's theirs.

Third, they were more likely scavenging than setting up a permanent base, although it's a good strategic site if some fool decides to invade on foot instead of by air.

I honestly don't see why this is such a massive problem.

It's like calling the ocean "shark infested." Sharks live there. We don't.

12. It's their country. Perhaps.

Some Afghanistanies are certainly Taliban, but not all Taliban are Afghanistanies.

13. And if you look at what the Taliban did to Afghanistan it really makes one wonder why they side
with them.

Perhaps there aren't enough people alive now that can remember the promise it once had. Check this video out:

15. Support for the Taliban is a mile wide and an inch deep
People remember who and what they are. They will probably form a part of the future government, but they will never be allowed to take over again.

The support is there only because the Taliban are fighting the foreigners.

17. I can only hope they can find peace in this land. I know Northern Ireland and Vietnam were once like
it and they have found some peace at last. There is always hope.
