2-cents on the reagan love fest (i.e. repub debate)
I confess I didn't watch the "debate" - our greyhound rescue is having an adoptathon this weekend and needed new brouchures printed. The original file was corrupted, so I had to recreate it...

I did listen to the repub love fest on the internet as I worked, and was struck by the similarity of what I was doing and what the repubs were doing.

Here I was resurrecting a brouchure, and there they were resurrecting reagan.

It appears (at least for the primary portion) the campaign is a Reagan vs Reagan vs Reagan vs Reagan vs Reagan.... or a contest on who can do the best reagan impersonation.

so much for "looking forward" - the repubs are too busy trying to reanimate the past

1. They're worshipping the Saint Ronnie of Reagan the stink tanks and foundations have invented
The real Reagan is nothing to brag about and his two disciples have been even worse.

5. They do tend to romanticize the doddering old fool....
don't they? :puke: Reagan was a sham, all form and no substance playing the role of President of the United States. He couldn't remember what he had for breakfast but they built him up to be the greatest statesman this country ever had. I'll always remember that SNL skit where he acts like the clueless, doddering idiot he really was and the minute everyone was out of the oval office he transformed into "Super President", micromanaging every detail of world events. That's just what the corporate media would like us to think about Reagan, that he was a man of action, his finger continuously on the pulse of every situation.

Talk about rewriting history. A good day for Reagan was remembering how to tie his shoes. :puke: And now every Republican candidate wants to try and "out Reagan" each other. The MSM is actually trying to discern which of the white, male candidates is the most like St. Ronnie. That's their benchmark and they're openly talking about it without even a trace of embarrassment. How sickening! :puke: :puke:

6. If Reagan is their only link to sanity and common sense
in this world, the Repugs today are worse off then ever before.

This man accomplished nothing in his lifetime, he was a mouthpiece for the military-industrial complex.

His moment of truth came in Rekjavic, Iceland, when Gorbachev asked him to disarm nuclear weapons and he would do the same in the USSR. Ray-gun refused and the rest is history.

KAL-007 was very likely a covert operation, and some have linked the Space Shuttle Challenger as being involved in it. After the shoot-down of KAL-007, for violating Soviet airspace (they got warnings and were ignored), it was unfortunately shot down. Which, in consideration of 9-11, that was the most logical thing to do.

And the next day, Reagan and Congress passed the largest defense bill in American history, largely because of this manufactured incident which was probably a CIA secret op.

11. How the GOP should honor its brain-dead
"The Ronald Reagan United States of America" has a definite appeal. I think we should launch a campaign to have the GOP incorporate it in its platform.

In 2028 we can urge them to campaign to rename it "The George W. Bush United States of America". That should bring Democrats a few million votes.

4. not sure which show/movie analogy to use
for those old enough to remember "TO TELL THE TRUTH" - where three guests claim to be "x-person", but in reality only one of them is - the panalists ask questions to determine who is telling the truth

the other is a repub version of Spartacus... "I'm St. Reagan"...."No, I'm St. Reagan"... yadda yadda yadda

another 2-cents - praising someone does not mean you are that someone... I can praise Dolly Parton but it doesn't mean I have big boobs

7. 'reanimate the dead' - To Treat the Dead

To Treat the Dead
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18368186/site/newsweek

Republicans should take note. An influx of oxygen could lead to real death.
suddenly flooded with oxygen, precisely the situation that leads to cell death.

A possible solution? Reduce the oxygen intake, lower the body temperature to a state of suspended animation.
keep the heart in a state of suspended animation.
Becker also endorses hypothermia—lowering body temperature from 37 to 33 degrees Celsius

Other solutions would be to avoid using the 'dead' heart with a
heart-lung bypass machine to maintain circulation to the brain until the heart could be safely restarted
or they get a heart that feels for all Americans, not just the ones that aren't disenfranchised.

(quotes outta context) :-)

8. What I remember of Raygun was his war against the working class.
He despised labor unions and destroyed the PATCO union right after entering office. This action snowballed all through the 80s. I remember my union taking three different wage and benefit concessions with the premise to make the company more competitive in the market place. What a damn joke that was. Every time we took a concession the company raised the price of their product.

10. They sounded like a bunch of empty suits quoting slogans
McCain and Guiliani occassionally sounded like they might have some humanity but mostly it was all empty mindless slogans with no evidence of insight, human thought, or leadership.

12. Republicans love Regan and that's the way for them to win
they won't win by focusing on Bush. I know three people who love Regan so much they named their daughters "Regan". Really.

Of course I know people who named their sons Clinton because they love Clinton too.
