|
Edited on Fri Apr-23-10 07:39 PM by KittyWampus
This is sort of related to AZ today. I looked for this info just for the sake of curiosity, not to prove any point. Maybe some other DU'ers might be interested.
From Wiki so I won't swear it's complete or accurate. Albania Argentina Belarus Belgium Bolivia Bosnia and Herzegovina Brazil Bulgaria Chile People's Republic of China Republic of China (Taiwan) Colombia Croatia Cuba Cyprus Czech Republic Egypt Estonia Germany Greece: Hong Kong Hungary Israel Jordan Kenya Lithuania Luxembourg Latvia Madagascar Malaysia Malta Morocco Montenegro Mozambique Netherlands Pakistan Peru Poland Portugal Romania Russia Saudi Arabia Serbia Singapore Slovakia Slovenia South Africa South Korea Spain Sri Lanka Thailand Turkey Ukraine Venezuela Vietnam

How many times have you had to show your driver's license or SS # for something, like opening a bank account, getting a library card, getting insurance, buying a house???? Despite the fact that the SS card was never meant to be used as an id card, people try all the time to get you to use it as one. Then came the "extra" ID you need to fly. then came the law that said the police could take DNA samples from you if they arrested you, even if they later let you go with no charges. Mandatory fingerprints for jobs came along, too. Now you need a mandatory passport to drive across the Canadian border, something we used to do all the time with no showing of any id, back in the 60's, 70's when I lived close to the border.
And now, your credit report will determine if you can rent an apt or house and if you can get a job.
We are being divided into "good Germans" and "the others".

I'm sorry but that's what i think of when i think of national identity cards. And we all know that cops in Arizona aren't gonna be checking the i.d.s of white people. Nope, only "brown" people, and if they get detained and happen to be US citizens, well that's their fault for being "brown.":sarcasm:

On Edit: no matter for what. Got stopped for a bad taillight. Had to show ID.
Oh, lived in Alaska for 20 years. Had to show ID every time a cop stopped me there too.
I get stopped a lot. I have a lead foot.

I did leave home without it, I was still asked for my name, address, DOB and SS number.
If they have that, there's no reason to be detained, unless they are illegal.
If I hadn't given that info, I would have expected to be "detained"
BTW, that wasn't only Arizona, that was Alaska too.
