The BIGGEST Obama Disappointment
Billions of dollars for the banker cronies, just one years worth of bonuses is equal to all the red ink in all the states

get rid of the teachers and bust the Unions at the same time, after all who gives a crap about America's future

Layoff Notices Sent to Thousands of US Teachers

by Andrea Peters

Global Research, April 23, 2010

Hundreds of thousands of public school teachers across the United States are facing possible layoffs this coming academic year.

Confronting massive budget deficits, school districts throughout the country have been sending out notices (“pink slips”) to employees this spring, warning them that they are unlikely to have a job in the fall. The bloodletting is worst in California, Illinois, New York, Michigan, and New Jersey, but nearly every region in the country is affected.

Pink slips were sent out to 22,000 teachers in California, 17,000 in Illinois, and 15,000 in New York. The jobs of 8,000 school employees in Michigan, 6,000 in New Jersey, and 5,000 in Oklahoma may also be axed.

These numbers are expected to increase in coming months. Officials in Illinois report that as many as 20,000 educators could lose their jobs in the state. In California, an additional 4,000 people may be put on notice.

US Secretary of Education Arne Duncan stated earlier this week that between 100,000 to 300,000 public education positions in the US are in danger. A study conducted by the American Association of School Administrators found that ninety percent of the nation’s school superintendents plan to cut jobs in the fall. This represents an increase of about 30 percent over the previous year.

The mass layoffs have the Obama administration’s stamp of approval.....

1. Sounds like superintendents want to retain their high rates of pay for doing what?
What do they really do anyway?

6. Wonder
I've often wondered about the hierarchy that allows people who do very little to get paid so much and be so unaccountable. Sort of like the CEO's that call the shots about what happens to themselves.

7. Yes, BIG disappointments regarding wealth & power
I DON'T 'despise' Obama, but I DO think he erred (was manipulated?) greatly when appointing Summers, Geithner, and Duncan. With those three on board, one just knew that criminal bankers would be sitting pretty thanks to endless bailouts while working professionals (especially public school teachers) would receive abuse while being told to 'tighten their belts' as if the last thirty years had not been exactly that.

Unions, education, organizing, agitation, and action are required. Are we up to the task?

9. Over 700 teachers near where I live will be laid off.
Cobb County, Georgia is looking to lay off more than 700 teachers by the start of the next school year. I future is getting short changed.

13. I was going to say the same.
And the wars are those that only hurt the cause. Unless the actual cause is to spend money on the operation for the profit of a few connected. It is beyond sickening.
