An ex-boyfriend of mine is from New Mexico. |

He's the son of a father of Mexican descent and a mother of Anglo/Irish descent. We used to laugh over his accounts of being stationed in Norfolk, VA in the Navy where he'd tell people he was from New Mexico and they'd ask if he had a green card or they'd compliment him on how good his English was. I'm in AZ and I thought of him when this bill passed today. We have 7th generation Hispanic Americans living here. We have a very large Native American population that looks very similar to many of the undocumented immigrants here. We also have a lot of dumbass Anglos who figure anyone with brown skin is a "furriner". I hope they at least realize that New Mexico is a U.S state, due to it's proximity to Arizona, and that Native Americans are US citizens but I may be too optimistic.
I should mention that his dark hair and skin and light colored eyes cause screeners at the airport to assume he's Middle Eastern, despite his Hispanic surname. Needless to say he gets pulled out of the line for "special questioning" quite often.

1. This is only the beginning the someone is going to get |
|
seriously hurt or killed because of this law. An American citizen is going to get thrown in jail because they didn't have their DL on them. They have opened a can of worms with this poorly written bill. They didn't bother to provide training for the police so the police have to wing it. Nothing but bad things can come of this.

2. If you have a law where it's okay for the police to harass someone... |
|
based on the color of their skin, I wouldn't be surprised if many bigoted people (shop owners, etc.) started doing the same. It's racism, pure and simple, and it's UnConstitutional.

3. I was discussing this law with a police officer friend, today. About half of the Yuma police force |
|
is Hispanic. It will be rough for them and there are also two Native American tribes in in the area and we are right on the border.

5. It is sounding more and more |

like a Nazi state. And they have the balls to claim that Obama is a Nazi. I guess they have found out if you use the word enough you turn into it.

6. This is going to get VERY ugly. |

Expect Hispanics to, rightfully, stand up to this BS, and also expect a violent backlash by racist assholes convinced that Hispanics standing up to 2nd class citizenship is part of a great conspiracy to destroy white people.
