Agreeing to disagree is what it's all about.

I think we're pretty well fucked. The march to the right continues and the denial about it just gets worse with each new example. The 2 party system has us all trapped in hell and hell light.

I do practiced and careful work. On females that is. I think that's important to point out.

it doesn't have to be a bad thing. I'm optimistic that once we shed this modern orgy of consumption, greed, and self-centeredness and get back to what's really important, we'll be in a much better place. We have to shift the paradigm.

Jake, are you here to congratulate me about being right about the first quarter and the state of the economy? It did exactly as I predicted, didn't it? No crash. No thousands of points drop in the DOW. None of that gloom and doom you and others were predicting.

It's a long, long way from being well, but any suggestion it isn't improved is simply asinine.

Ben Bernake would go that far with the printing...pay me now or pay me later.

Foreclosures are hitting record levels, the banking system is still insolvent but living due to mark to market, and job creation hasn't occurred and I expect the new jobs to kind of suck and further deflate the housing situation.

As for the DOW, I really didn't think they'd tolerate the banks not lending to keep that going...I was wrong. Volume is low and there is little evidence this is a middle class driven rally, in fact all evidence appoints from those investors hiding out from it or looking for an exit.

I was wrong on the stock market, because I actually thought they'd eventually stop extend and pretend.

19. Hello Shadow
A very Fine man you are. No we aren't fucked just yet and we may have dodged a bullet as I think the retilicons are about to turn everyones stomachs to the point that it will be hard to find any after this next election.
Have a great day and with hopes coming your way for that to be. :hi:

You do realize that you helped to paint the picture of what our kids were going through in Iraq and Afghanistan with your damn fine take on their plight back when you were driving them first one place then the other as a cabbie.

I hope you and yours is doing well

27. We're fucked, but is it totally yet?
Turning things around will be like making a u-turn with a train, we'll have to lay the track ahead of time before we get run over. The world view of many will have to change, for instance the idea that a recession means the middle class get a faint wiff of what the poor go through in good times and bad.

30. No, as the character in "Roadhouse" said, "Opinions vary." In my
opinion, yours is wrong.

There is room for improvement, but as far as 'totally fucked'? No.

31. Can we compromise on moderately fucked?
For one thing, I can still see a few possible pathways out of the mess, though they're narrow and getting narrower.

For another, the United States is not the world, and though the American Empire may be primed to go down, there are signs of hope elsewhere.

For a third -- what was it they used to say -- "Nature bats last"? There are any number of things which could happen that we don't expect and over which we have no control but which would fundamentally alter the course of events.

So be of good cheer, because the future is not yet written.
