Drill Baby Drill? Hell No! Grow, Hippy, Grow! |
|
Edited on Sat Apr-24-10 07:49 AM by BakedAtAMileHigh
Compiled from Jack Herer.com Fuel:
* Farming 6% of the continental U.S. acreage with biomass crops would provide all of America's energy needs. * Hemp is Earth's number-one biomass resource; it is capable of producing 10 tons per acre in four months.
* Biomass can be converted to methane, methanol, or gasoline at a cost comparable to petroleum, and hemp is much better for the environment. Pyrolysis (charcoalizing), or biochemical composting are two methods of turning hemp into fuel.
* Hemp can produce 10 times more methanol than corn.
* Hemp fuel burns clean. Petroleum causes acid rain due to sulfur pollution.
* The use of hemp fuel does not contribute to global warming.
Rest in Peace, Jack Herer.

1. It is too logical, too much of a solution and would not serve the oil interests well. So |
|
very sad, and so sad how this nation stumbles along thinking it's going to lead the world in the 21st century.

2. I haven't smoked pot in years |
|
and I have no plans to. But wouldn't it be awesome if in places like public parks and college campuses and so on there were big marijuana trees just growing for the public. So if you were having a bad when you walked by you could just pick a bud and talk with the folks walking by.

3. hemp, the MALE plant, does not get people high anyway |
|
there is no reason whatsoever why we cannot grow hemp here.
nonetheless, we live in a backwards country run by oil interests.

4. Hemp is not the male plant. |
|
Hemp is a strain of cannabis sativa that is very low in THC and grows tall and woody. The strains of cannabis sativa and cannabis indica which are smoked are bred for flower production. Those bred for rope, textiles, oil, seeds...etc are bred for stem production. :smoke:

5. They need to back up some of those claims... |

Acid rain is a by-product of burning coal that has a high concentration of sulfur in it.

6. It doesn't stop with using hemp for fuel production |

Car parts made from hemp fiber are stronger and lighter: note - the author makes the mistake of equating hemp and marijuana, but you get the point.http://www.examiner.com/x-4824-Tampa-Sports-Car-Examiner~y2010m4d1-Marijuana-car-parts-increase-gas-mileage

7. so are surfboards and skateboards... |
|
I have been using a hemp fabric in place of fiberglass cloth on a few surfboards I have built lately, its harder to work with but some some tough stuff.

14. I've seen the film of Henry Ford's green car |
|
and it is amazing. Most Americans have never learned that Ford claimed he could "grow cars from the soil". The film clip I have seen shows a group of men spraying the slurry plant matter onto a tubular frame; when it dries and is finished processing they take a hammer to the bumper and are unable to cause any damage.
Imagine it: an entire automobile crafted from and powered by plant-based resources. The mind boggles, weeps, then boggles again.
....but of course we would rather let the oceans burn and putrefy to appease the oil industry. Ugh.

9. K&R... I know it sounds like hyperbole |
|
but legalization is the first step to solving many many problems in this country. From law enforcement, to farming, to prisons, to taxes, to job creation.. we are denying an industry that can
"pull us up by our bootstraps".
Funny, I saw a poll in the NYT the other day that said most Americans "against" legalization. Then 2 days later I saw an article saying the poll was misrepresented and most people are for legalization. They are trying to stack the deck.
There is only one generation left that still thinks Reefer Madness was a documentary. Once that generation passes legalization will be a fact of life. Although I'm hoping that California passes in November and the flood gates open up.

10. Hemp oil for biodiesel is superior to almost every other raw stock. |
|
Excellent lubrication qualities for fuel injection systems; clean burning, low ash, low soot, low sulphur.

11. Drilling is macho. Agriculture is not. |
|
That's why the right wing rank and file support it. Gotta prove we're not a bunch of plant-growing, tree-hugging long haired "feminine" types.
