I Really Haven't Followed This Immigration Issue As I Devoted All My Time To HCR.......
so I don't really understand where the Dems and Obama stand on this issue in comparison to the Repugs. Can someone help me out here as to what is really happening here. I have my suspicions. With a Repug Gov and two Repug Sens I have to think this law Arizona just passed is a Repug plant to somehow cause more problems for Obama and the Dems. I know that Immigration Reform wasn't the next thing that the Obama Administration wanted to tackle - but now it looks like they might be forced into having to deal with it - and before the November election. Is this good or bad for the Dems? I really need some education here.

Also - bear with me a moment as I want to validate the following:

I had a friend that ran a business relate to me a story. He indicated that he passed out W-2's to some of the people he had working for him. Back to the story: when some of his employees received their W-2's they just pitched them away. He then realized he got snookered and did have some illegal immigrants in his employ. But what he said was interesting. As an employer - he was deducting all the proper taxes from their paychecks. As such they were contributing to the tax collections in this country. But when it comes tax time - they just don't file as they don't want to be found out.

He indicated that some in the government don't want to have to deal with immigration reform - because - if something is done that influences this collection of tax money that is withheld from their paychecks - this would be a big financial burden/loss to the system. It appears that we're content with collecting the tax monies from them and not having to pay out or refund any back.

Has anybody ever heard this type of argument before? I don't know if this is a valid concern or not?

1. This is precisely the reason neither party has had the will to deal with immigration
It was estimated several years ago that undocumented workers were paying $9 billion per year into SS taxes which they will never be able to collect. That, and the cheap labor force it provides for 'bidness' make it a political hot potato neither side wants to touch.

2. So Are The Repugs Forcing The Dems Hands To Deal With This To......
get them to raise taxes to compensate and call them 'tax and spend' Dems? Is this - what is going down now in Arizona - just the trigger that they are holding against the Dems?

I guess this is why I want to find out how the Dems stand on this issue in comparison to the Repugs.

I'm thinking that they are trying to back Obama into another corner and also trying to have it both ways at the same time.

3. Not sure
I do think AZ passed a law that punishes the immigrants and still lets the businesses that hire them off the hook. Other than that, they are playing to their base-their racist, jingoistic base.
