They are nostalgic for past times
when people did not live with as much ethnic diversity. Maybe they scapegoat for the changes they don't like.

It's odd, because you can be proud of being Irish or Polish or Italian or whatever without having to live only with that group surrounding you.

1. Maybe because the white male is still predominantly
the power in American business.
minorities may be catching up and passing whites in population...the white man still controls the reins in America.

3. I'm white, but white men continually screw up our country.
I am proud to say I have voted for candidates in every party since I became eligible to vote. Some where protest votes. Some votes were cross over votes in primaries to try to get the worst republican in the general election. Having said this, I would NEVER vote for a republican for any office anywhere. They are unfit to govern and have become a party that caters to the most extreme, most insane, and most irrational people in their political freak show. The republican party use to have leaders who were statesmen, visionary, intelligent and wanted what was right for the country. Now all they want to do is stop all progress. They worship capitalism and are 100% whores to big businesses. All of their actions are designed to maximize profits for their corporate pimps and screw hard working Americans.

HOW CAN ANYONE VOTE REPUBLICAN????? The democratic party should GAIN seats in November if they grew balls and stop allowing republicans to manipulate the message. If I was the chair of the DNC I could easily lead the party to a successful November. Democrats in office need to speak out and take charge of the message and to do that effectively they have to do what put them in office to begin with. They need to IGNORE republicans and pass every progressive idea they can. WE WON in 2008, but democrats spent all of last year acting like they lost. There should be NO ATTEMPTS at bipartisanship, NONE. Bush and the republican congress shoved through all kinds of damaging laws, started wars, raised the national debt and increased the gap between the super rich and the hard working poor and middle class. Where in the hell are the democrats? They need to overturn EVERYTHING passed by the republican congress under Bush. They could be heroes. And Obama needs to go for the republican jugular seizing control over every message and showing the people they always get fucked under republican rule.

Hey democratic leaders: Got Balls??? Then use them goddamn it!

Well one of them anyway...

They see this as a nation founded by white men

WHITE MEN
Anyone outside that classification doesn't belong.

That is the short and simple answer. They are scared of anybody who isn't exactly like themselves.

7. Because ONLY non-whites use welfare programs...
Edited on Sat Apr-24-10 02:19 PM by Beartracks
... and whites NEVER use welfare programs.

Welfare is anathema to conservative values and principles, and non-whites just want to suck at the government teat and get money for free.

Of course, all this isn't true. But there ya go.

13. I think there are a few possibilities
such as low self-esteem. Some think that standing on a group of people some how elevates one's self to be more superior.

The lack of personal responsibility. It is easier to blame "others" for life's problems vs. looking at one's own life.

Unresolved past personal pain that grows into anger and hate which builds and has to be directed somewhere, so some people discharge it at the "other."

I think one of the biggest reasons is lack of education. Some don't realize that people are people, regardless of skin color, and tend to think people of color are less human than their own color which causes fear and mistrust.

This is what I've noticed. ((sigh))

14. In the 1960's the republican party made a calculated decision to spurn the black vote
and court the bigoted, racist, white vote. (Goldwater famously described this decision as "going duck hunting where the ducks are.") The decision is widely known as the republican Southern Strategy. Over time the bigoted and racist democrats left their party and became republicans and the non-bigoted and non-racist republicans left that party and became democrats or independents.

18. In my experience, Republicans are just fine with non-whites.
As long as they wish they were white. As long as they act white.

In troth, the conservative mindset requires an "us-and-them" to survive. There must be an enemy to vilify. The liberal; the terrorist; the 'other'. There has to be someone for them to feel better than, you see.
