As someone with conservative leanings on immigration, I find the AZ bill to be an abomination |
|
It is a green light for police racial profiling and while no police should have that authority, I especially worry about Joe Arpaio having that power in Maricopa County.
Most of the people that cops harass will be Hispanic, followed by Native Americans, Asians and Indians. My family knows a white Canadian woman who lives in Arizona and has overstayed her visa. I doubt she will be harassed. AND and good many of these people who are harassed will in fact be citizens and legal residents.

1. My fear too, the law will be abused, a police state. Who knows what level of |
|
abuse it could/will unleash... one more level of violence in this country. I want to see immigration fixed too, but this is not the right way... this law can be used against anyone for harassment, even color of skin makes no difference. ...for example, they could raid a gay establishment and make everyone prove their citizenship... how many people carry around proof of citizenship.
Once crap like this starts it's one more step toward a police state. I've often thought American could turn into a RW taliban christian theocracy under the right political leadership one day.
We have a lot of people in this country a few cards short of a full deck and a number in politics and with wealth, power and in control... And many in this country are gullible and easily led to believe crap like this is ever so right and the right thing to do.
