ASPCA: Avoid all non-US protein supplements

“We are strongly recommending that pet parents immediately
investigate, via their pet food manufacturer’s Web site or by calling them
directly, where the ingredients—specifically protein
supplements—are sourced from.”

Given the current situation and until this crisis is resolved, the
ASPCA is recommending pets be fed products containing U. S.-sourced
protein supplements only.

They also recommend that your pet sees a vet if any recalled food was
consumed, not wait until they show symptoms. And extend fluid treatments
if the pet is found sick.

2. I'm skeptical too, we need to find out who originated this idea of
...adding non-food fillers to pet foods, animal feed and also possibly human food for the purpose of deceptively enriching the protein content of food. My guess would be that the practice originated here in the U.S.A. among feed producers who secretly added these chemical compounds in small enough quantities so these would not be detected. Protein enriched animal feed products have been used for decades at factory farm feed lots in this country. I further believe that as economic globalization started to really take hold these techniques of feed enrichment were exported abroad as secret formulas to American licensed manufacturers in China and other developing third world countries who began altering the formulas to expand profit margins and marketing differentiation without fully realizing the dangers they were exposing consumers of these products to.

I think every protein product for human consumption on the market that claims to be enriched/enhanced/100% pure or whatever marketing gimmick is being used should be tested for purity and safety whether manufactured in this country or imported.
