Plano mother who cut baby's arms off ordered back into state mental hospital
Dena Schlosser, the former Collin County woman who killed her baby by cutting off her arms but was found not guilty by reason of insanity, is back in a state mental hospital.

Schlosser, 41, was formally ordered back to Terrell State Hospital on Thursday by State District Judge Chris Oldner, said her attorney, David Haynes, but she has been under care there for several weeks.

"She was found in Richardson by firefighters there in March," Haynes said. "She was walking down the street at 2 in the morning."

Collin County prosecutors could not be reached for comment.

Haynes said Schlosser, who was released from state care by Oldner in November 2008, had been free on an outpatient maintenance basis that required her to keep up with her medications, among other things. He said that she had basically abided by the requirements until recently.

5. Tragic story
I read the story you posted then went back in the paper's archives to read more about the case. I wasn't surprised to read that there was a fanatical pastor involved in this woman's life. He testified at her trial that he believed some women were possessed with a "Jezebel spirit" and that mental illness was caused by demons. This woman was hallucinating before the birth of her child and continued having psychotic episodes after the birth. One of her delusions was that she was possessed with this Jezebel spirit.
The article didn't say much about her church and her family's involvement, but her lawyer was quoted as saying that she had been involved with a church and people that weren't good for her mental health. If her pastor believes that mental illness is caused by demons it's no wonder she didn't receive the help she needed when she first exhibited psychotic behavior.

Shades of Andrea Yates, who by the way, was her roommate at the maximum security psychiatric hospital where she was placed after her trial.

Schlosser's husband has moved away and divorced her and she is forbidden to have any contact with her two children. Shades of Rusty Yates, who eventually dumped Andrea and married another woman who he planned to have more children with.

7. Oh boy.
Wow. I would guess she had to be insane to do such a thing. How terribly sad for that poor baby to endure that. Heartbreaking. Goodness.
