I have a radical idea for dealing with the Catholic church.
The IRS revokes their tax-exempt status until we see REAL efforts to weed out the perverts, and the hierarchy that covers up for the perverts.

That includes Pope Rat The 1rst.

5. that would be devastating
to small liberal denominations like Unitarian Universalists and Quakers. It would wipe them out, in fact. That's not in anyone's best interest.

9. It's a key factor in how the Supreme Court has always interpreted freedom of religion.
Being taxed would be seen as an encroachment by the State.

13. But no one will support it.
The US has a huge RC population. What politician is going to propose such a thing? Catholics would be outraged.

And other churches will instantly back the Vatican, because they know they'll be next on the list.

16. Sure did. And they defied the church to do it.
So they'd have a fit if anything like that was proposed.
