Thompson apologizes for gay remark at the debate.. "misinterpreted"
At the debate Thompson was asked by the moderator: "If a private employer finds homosexuality immoral, should he be allowed to fire a gay worker?"

The former Wisconsin governor answered: "I think that is left up to the individual business. I really sincerely believe that that is an issue that business people have got to make their own determination as to whether or not they should be." The moderator appeared a bit startled: "OK, so the answer is yes?" Thompson replied, "Yes."

In a telephone interview from O'Hare Airport, Thompson told "American Morning" that he "misinterpreted" the question and should have asked to have it repeated.

25. Agree that he's a boob, but he also said he didn't hear the question properly
The Milwaukee paper says that he has lost most of his hearing in one ear and didn't hear the question correctly. Well, maybe. (It's still a weak excuse.)

That said, he is well known for stupid remarks. One that you surely remember was when he was trying to get the sales tax for the new stadium passed, to be paid only in the counties around Milwaukee. In northern Wisconsin he urged people to tell their legislators, "stick it to Milwaukee."

What a moron promoting discrimination right on TV. Doesn't he know that discrimination needs to be kept quiet.

LOS ANGELES (CNN) -- Republican presidential candidate Tommy Thompson apologized Friday morning for saying in last evening's debate that private employers should be allowed to fire gay employees because of their sexual preference.

These are the 25% who still support Bush and think that people of other faiths/no faiths aren't human and therefore can and should be killed.

14. If you can't even make it through the debate without issuing and apology...
...might as well save your $37 in campaign donations and call it a day, Tommy. Or hire a whole staff of full-time apologizers...it's gonna be a loooooong campaign.

15. But that's exactlyhow the far right wing feel
Edited on Fri May-04-07 10:01 AM by Marnieworld
That was the exact position of Focus on the Family in a recent piece against editing the Hate crime legislation.

http://www.citizenlink.org/CLtopstories/A000004525.cfm

They say these alleged gaffes to appeal to this far out base. Then when anyone else calls them on it they retract but the base was fed nonetheless. People should call them out on this obvious trick.

I'd respect them more if they stood by this hateful conviction. And then they'd have to explain why some groupd have civil rights and some do not.

18. Anyone who could misinterpret that question isn't smart enough to be President.
Of course, he didn't really "misinterpret" it, and we all know that.
And saying he did shows he's too DISHONEST to be President.

He understood just fine, and answered it clearly enough.
And the answer shows that he's too MORALLY UNFIT to be President.

I'm starting to think he shouldn't be President!
