National Guard to Chicago
It has been reported recently that some lawmakers in Chicago have called for the National Guard to be called into Chicago in order to reduce street violence. This seems like an overreaction. I understand that violence has been bad in Chicago, but it seems that calling in the National Guard is over the top. Even if the guard will not be rolling down the street in tanks it seems there must be a better solution to the problem.

5. Could only find this one story about some state reps asking for this:
CHICAGO — Two Illinois lawmakers say violence has become so rampant in Chicago that the National Guard must be called in to help.

Chicago Democratic Reps. John Fritchey and LaShawn Ford made a public plea to Gov. Pat Quinn on Sunday to deploy troops.

The request comes amid a recent surge in violent crime, including a night last week that saw seven people killed and 18 wounded, mostly by gunfire. <snip>

3. Major Show-Boating, Ma'am, Is All This Is
The actual rate of violence is roughly what it has been in the previous several years.

The new Chief of Police, however, is not too popular either with local politicians or the department rank and file, being an outsider brought in under a 'reform' label....
