Palast on Hartmann show: AZ law is about election fraud
http://www.gregpalast.com/behind-the-arizona-immigration-lawgop-game-to-swipe-the-november-election/#more-3592">From Palast's website:

-Snip-

What moved GOP Governor Jan Brewer to sign the Soviet-style show-me-your-papers law is the exploding number of legal Hispanics, US citizens all, who are daring to vote -- and daring to vote Democratic by more than two-to-one. Unless this demographic locomotive is halted, Arizona Republicans know their party will soon be electoral toast. Or, if you like, tortillas.

In 2008, working for Rolling Stone with civil rights attorney Bobby Kennedy, our team flew to Arizona to investigate what smelled like an electoral pogrom against Chicano voters ... directed by one Jan Brewer.

Brewer, then Secretary of State, had organized a racially loaded purge of the voter rolls that would have made Katherine Harris blush. Beginning after the 2004 election, under Brewer's command, no less than 100,000 voters, overwhelming Hispanics, were blocked from registering to vote. In 2005, the first year of the Great Brown-Out, one in three Phoenix residents found their registration applications rejected.

They are gonna teabag the polls and challenge non-white votors to reduce turnout and increase the odds of Republicans being elected. Election fraud again.

1. Voter Supression. >

This way they can point out people as they stand in line in Dem. areas and challenge their right to vote.
Greg's title:
Behind the Arizona Immigration Law:
GOP Game to Swipe the November Election

Folks, they're planning on taking the 2010 and 2012 elections. Not by actually winning fairly, but with dirty tricks. And remember, those voting machines haven't been fixed yet either.

Using Justice to Suppress the Vote
ANALYSIS

By Brennan Center for Justice and Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law
– 06/07/07

In 2007, the Brennan Center for Justice and Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law made a presentation on vote suppression measures promoted by the U.S. Department of Justice

Download Presentation

http://www.brennancenter.org/content/resource/using_justice_to_suppress_the_vote/

In its amicus brief, the Brennan Center argued that Arizona’s interest in preventing voting by non-citizens does not justify disenfranchising thousands of voters by imposing the burdens of documentary proof of citizenship required by Proposition 200. The Brennan Center’s brief cites evidence of substantial populations—as many as millions of Americans—who don’t have ready access to the documentation required and evidence that voting by non-citizens is a rare and isolated occurrence. Additionally, the brief notes the determinations of Congress and 48 other states that provisions like Proposition 200’s documentation requirement are unnecessary and unreasonable.

22. And there is selective enforcement by the state. For example, they're not
requiring businesses to check with the Social Security Adm. to verify SS nos. (I heard someplace this is Arizona law but am not sure.)

6. Who implied any such thing?
The point is, Americans should not be harassed or in anyway hindered from voting. That is the point. This Republican talking point about non citizens voting is pure rubbish.

15. This isn't about 'non-American' people voting, it's about harassing
existing American citizens, encouraging them *not* to vote -due to state sanctioned racial profiling.

11. The Democratic party in Arizona needs to start a campaign
for all citizens (especially those who are apt to be harassed) to get passports and bring them to the polls with them. Perhaps a fund can be started to help subsize the cost for people.

13. This is part of it, but not the whole answer
I wish Greg realized this is more complex than election suppression.

And I am not going to say it is just ONE thing behind this...
