The Planet Of Stupid
Stephen Hawking says he thinks that there may be alien life out there and that we should fear then. I disagree. Can there be anyone less advanced that the inhabitants of this Planet of Stupid? What with Palins, Becks, Imams saying the reason there are so many earthquakes is because there is too much cleavage, Erin Burnett on Morning Joe making the case for wearing burkas by relating how Saudi women say they are just a thin piece of fabric, pirates from Wall Street plundering the world’s economy and the likes of George Pataki even thinking he has a shot at the presidency.

I’ve always thought that if they ‘are out there’ they are so far advanced that there us nothing we could do for them. If they can come here their technology is better than ours and our resources are rapidly dwindling. Unless… it’s a case of “To Serve Man”, and they want to eat us. Then again do they want to ingest all the trans fats and chemicals we’ve been eating?

I do, however, expect that some Con will try and use the concept of alien invasions as they did terrorist attacks because this is truly the Planet of Stupid.

1. They wouldn't even have to come here to tear our culture apart..
Just the knowledge they really exist would throw much of the world's culture into acute shock.

5. What if they exist and came here just out of intellectual curiosity?
Advanced might not mean advanced empathy or compassion...especially for a species such as us that might seem as undeveloped to them as rats seem to us. That, most likely..is what he was refering to with such a warning.

9. "Advanced might not mean advanced empathy or compassion"
And the same goes for God. Humans should not be so keen on praying to their invisible best friend in the sky--it might be dangerous.

10. Aliens seem a possibility.
While the "god" type super human created by the worlds religions seem just silly.

2. Take a break
This is what happens when you get nothing but the view from DU. May I suggest you listen to some good music, read a good book. Maybe take a trip to an art museum. Keep in mind, our civilization has only been going for a few thousand years. Humanity has plenty to be proud of.

11. There Have Been Better Times
And more thought provoking times when advances were made but we are in the Age of Regression. I wonder if it isn't arrogance on our part to think another inhabitants of the universe are even the least bit interested in us. I bet they've been zooming around all along, rubbernecking.

15. That may be
But I don't think so. Remember the 90% rule: 90% of everything is crap. Bygone eras seem so much better than our own because we only really remember the 10% that was good. So it seems 10 times better than our own era; as our era will seem ten times better than a future one, because the 90% crap from our era will be forgotten.

16. The 90% Rule Would Make The Case For Them Not Coming
Why go to the trouble for a 19% return?

Unless they are very high minded and come to help sort us out.

3. Well, they may see this planet as being ripe for colonization
because there is no discernible intelligent life on it.

6. Why would they want to save this Planet of Stupid?
What if they feel sorry for the victims of the human's ecocide?
