Post-Racial America sure seems to be like Pre-Racial America |

Not to put too fine a point on it, but I really thought we had come further than we have.
Every time I look in the rear view mirror, the phrase "WARNING: OBJECTS IN THE PAST ARE MUCH CLOSER THAN THEY APPEAR IN THE REAR VIEW" jumps out at me.

4. The problem is so many of them are still living in the past. |

Perhaps they have temporal dual citizenship?

5. Hmmm...maybe that explains the Teabaggers! |
|
A group of retirees who were 70-something in the 1970's...and they found a time portal, came to the 2010's...and wreaked havoc with their Bronze Age ideas...

6. Pre-racial America wasn't racist... |
|
since it hadn't been "invented" yet. But it was a lot worse than now, even with our racial problems. As for your OP, I don't think anyone here was claiming that we live in a post-racial society, so your reaction seems incoherent to say the least.
And if this is in reference to the recently passed immigration law, it is actually a lot more complicated than just racists and bigots.
Of course, with comments like yours, you must have been pretty surprised that Obama became president? I think your comments are a little too cynical/negative compared to reality.

7. Actually, I took Obama's election as a sign we had grown up as a nation. |
|
Between the teabaggers, Arizona's craziness, and the rise in hate groups, not to mention coded language on the airwaves, it seems like I sadly overestimated how far we had come as a country.

8. Well, perhaps you misgauged the reaction... |
|
we have come pretty far as a country, and the hateful reaction of a minority of the nation just proves the point. They can't stand seeing how far we've come and how far we are going. And everything points towards this country becoming ever more liberal. It can be slow and frusterating though, to say the least.

9. The only remaining question is whether or not you learn from your error. |

You seem to be operating under a misunderstanding of what the word racist means.

as in, before the idea of race was even around. When the colonies were first settled, there wasn't an "idea" of race. Of course, that's not to say that people were still not divided up in many different ways and treated badly because of it. Class, nationality, religion, tribe, family, all of these things were very prominant identifiers and in many cases a much more important part of how society treated you than they are today.
